They are not allowed to open and search your luggage without your permission. So when your luggage is not delivered to your cabin, you'll know that security is holding it. Cruise security will also leave you a message telling you where to get it.
You are not allowed to bring hard liquor on the ship. Royal Caribbean allows only two bottles of wine per cabin to be brought on board. @@fixinit I called them last night. And they confirmed it. Or can be purchased at the website under "Royal gifts". Bottles are $45. I'm doing a back to back on freedom in November so I'll buy 2 for the first leg and another 2 for the second. With a few buckets of beer I'm gonna be good CAN'T WAIT. I believe I've done about 10 Carnival cruises these will be Mt first Royal!

This is Royal Caribbean’s rule: On boarding day, guests may bring onboard two (2) 750 ml bottles of personal wine or champagne per stateroom in their carry-on luggage.

They x-ray scan the bags, like at the airport. So they only ask to open a bag if they see something suspicious. You should be ok with the rum runners wrapped in the clothes. Let me know if it works. Enjoy your Trip!
