I think she genuinely loved them so much, but she also had a tendency to treat them as extensions of herself, and a way to have power. Similar to how Tywin uses his children as chess pieces, but with less finesse lol.

every parent sees their children as part of them. Cersei did not use them to have power on the contrary she had no control over Joffrey, with Tommen she clearly saw what Tywin and Margaery had in mind. She knew he was too good and weak, One could say she was overprotective, her maternal instincts rarely betrayed her when they were in danger. Together with Jaime they meant everything to her.

Cersei is such an amazing loving mother. They paint her a villain. I'd do anything for the ones I love. She did it. She lost the ones she loved. She destroyed the ones who hurt them. In the end she died in the arms of the one who could make it all possible. What lives on is family. ❤ amazing edit

Jaime and their children was what mattered to her. She took revenge on those who hurted her children and herself. She is far less a villain than others in the series. Although her love for Jaime is against nature, if she could have lived that love in the open and with no risk to her children, like the Targaryens she would have been a happy woman.

This is where apparently everyone is fooled. Cersei cares about herself. No one else. She uses her kids as excuses for her own selfish behaviors and actions. Their deaths are because of her & those behaviors & actions. She was given 3 lessons, and didn’t learn any of those times.

Tyrion knew Cersei and Jaime from atom, he's known to be a good judge of character. Even though he and Cersei didn't like each other he did know for a fact she loved her children. She did despicable things out of love for her children, she never used her love for them as an excuse. But her problem was that she was also very ambitious. Her ambition came before her love for her children.
