(I know you're praising them and just saying they're basically all "mains" which is definitely not wrong, just wanted to give my 2 cents) I think in this group the main vocals are actually Taeyeon, Wendy, and Boa when we consider their parts, while Seulgi and Winter are lead vocalists. Boa got that amazing opening of the bridge which really highlighted her voice, while Taeyeon and Wendy got multiple Eb5s and multiple F5s, as well as stand-out parts in the bridge. And Seulgi and Winter only got one F5 each as well as a little piece of the bridge fitting of lead vocals. So I would say: Main vocals: Taeyeon, Wendy, Boa Lead vocals: Seulgi, Winter Main dancers: Hyoyeon, Boa, Seulgi Lead dancers: Karina, Winter Main rapper: Hyoyeon Lead rapper: Karina

0:19 "the beat" is the name for this line-up and for this release of this unit. "Girls On Top" is the name of this super group/unit. SuperM has fixed members while GOT doesn't and will come back every time with a new line-up(their plan was officially confirmed btw). It's pretty much like NCT U too - just for female. Rumor: People say "GOT" as an abbreviation is used as a word play, in this case "got the beat" and perhaps they possibly continue with that pun in the next CB (if intended) .. for example like "got the vibe" or something. Edit: Please note that this information is obviously outdated now. A journaiist wrote this in some naver article back and explained it, that's why. I can imagine due to the incidents like the internal downfall early this year, producers leaving the company and all the drama etc has forced to change up a lot of future plans and restructuring inside the company. So right now it's uncertain how they are going to continue with GOT's concept. PS: They didn't ask where the name comes from, of course it's a single of BoA so I didn't elaborate on that part. But they were curious how the group's line-up and in correlation to the name for this unit systematically is going to work hence why I explained it.

Also this is an interchangeable lineup with each new concept, SM confirmed it! 1st Gen: BoA (debuted in 2000; 22 years) 2nd Gen: Taeyeon and Hyoyeon of SNSD (debuted in 2007; 15 years) 3rd Gen: Wendy and Seulgi of Red Velvet (debuted in 2014; 8 years) 4th Gen: Karina and Winter of Aespa (debuted in 2020; 2 years) I was also freaking out. 4 generations of kpop its crazy. I have a huge respect for BoA and SNSD, but *Red Velvet is my fav group ever (along DC) and see Wendy and Seulgi shining on this project make me so proud and happy.* The bridge is AWESOME. I've seen many reactions to this song. This is the first one where anyone tried to say it was "misogynistic" or "empowering men". It's not either. The song lyrics are NOT about empowering men! That is such a deliberate misinterpretation! It's about a woman confronting a would-be homewrecker! It's not even clear that the other woman was getting anywhere with the man (and it's baked in misandry to just assume he's succumbing to the other), it's just that the point-of-view character isn't going to let it slide, whether he is resisting or not. Some things are worth fighting for, in relationships or other other arenas, and women do that. It is NOT misogyny to acknowledge that! This is a woman saying "I've made MY pick, because he's awesome _(as expressed in the quoted lyrics),_ and you don't get to waltz in and try to take him away". Much more empowering than oh, say, "Stand By Your Man".

It’s just the wrong way to go in our opinion for such a powerful group of wonder women in kpop. :/// Like look at the material and they’re singing about downgrading other women when we in reality know none of them would be like that. Also I know it’s not written by them and they were probably just given this concept, but like I said: For a group like them, literally the most empowering women I know in kpop, to sing about a topic like that just didn’t feel right 🥲 But that’s okay yknow opinions differ!

@@DifferentlyAlike Do you not see the hypocrisy in your own comment though? Wanting to promote female empowerment, but then telling a girl group what they should or shouldn't sing about? I don't see this song as empowering "the man." I see it as a woman, already in a relationship with a man, seeing another woman making a play for her lover and telling them to back off. Should the guy be the one to tell the other woman off? Sure, but I don't care how secure you are in your relationship, if someone is making moves on your lover you're going to want to tell them to get lost. Is wanting to stand up and defend your relationship misogynistic?
@DifferentlyAlike3 жыл бұрын
Yeah we disagree in the matter for sure. Couldn’t possibly imagine going after the third party and not talking it over with your partner. Unless the partner asked for it. Could be possible, we didn’t read all the lyrics tbh. From our point of view it does feel like that. It’s weird that the other woman has a responsibility but the man with the wandering eye doesn’t. Strange

So any song that's meant to demean anyone is wrong, in my opinion. I do want to believe that all the exceptionally talented women have at least some say in their careers to not be afraid to say they don't want to be a part of a song with lyrics they find offensive so I hope there was no pressure on them to have to be a part of this group (BoA especially can do whatever the F she wants). Again, don't know the situation but that's just my thought and hopefully the industry continues to evolve in a positive way. For kpop, I mostly listen for the quality of voices (and occasionally choreography and production) and almost never read subtitles or have made an honest attempt to learn Korean because I enjoy making my own interpretation about what the songs actual means based on style, tone and what little I've picked up while listening for as long as I have. So that being said I loved what they did and I was super glad Wendy got to be featured in that bridge because she killed it.
@resurgingflame3 жыл бұрын
It's not even "offensive" or "demeaning" or mysoginistic, the song literally just about a girl showing off their man & telling other girls that wanted him to stay away. It's only offensive bcus people are so damn sensitive & trying to be super woke these days. If this was a male group singing the song, then no one will literally give a damn. The double standard along with the hypocritical stereotype.... Why can't we just enjoy a song without desperately wanting all the lyrics to be super meaningful, uplifting or deep. Girls On Top was likely named after BoA's song "Girls On Top". BoA is an absolute legend of the industry, an idol of idols and she'd debuted over 20 years ago. This unit puts together representative female SM artists of the 1st generation (BoA), 2nd generation in SNSD, or Girls' Generation (Taeyeon, the vocalist with silver hair and Hyo, aka DJ Hyo, the rapper with pink hair, she'd actually started her career as THE Janet Jackson's backup dancer), 3rd gen, Red Velvet (Wendy, the vocalist with shorter brown hair, Seulgi, the vocalist/dancer with long black hair) and 4th, rookie monsters, aespa (Karina, the leader of aespa, the rapper with long, straight black hair and Winter, the rapper/vocalist with short, black hair). There will be future subunits featuring, perhaps, the other members of these groups and BoA, or, perhaps, even, Bada, a female soloist and former member of SM's 1st generation group S.E.S. whose song "Dreams Come True" from 1998. BoA and aespa have remade for 2021 as a part of SM's "Re-masterpiece" project aimed at preserving and carrying on its history and huge mark on the K-pop industry. Thx for reacting!

this is just my opinion but personally I don't see anything wrong with the lyrics. Like, I don't understand why a girl can't call out another girl for overstepping her boundaries? It has nothing to do with the man in the relationship imo, talking to him about it is a completely different matter. It honestly feels like sometimes the responsibility of "protecting" one's relationship always falls on the guy, but if a girl were hitting on my man I would call her out as well - to protect my relationship. Because even if I know my man wouldn't be swayed by her, she is still interfering with our relationship and that's a big no for me. And I know there are people saying, "well if you have to fight off other suitors to keep your man or if other girls are going after him what does that say about him?" But imo even when you're with someone, there's always going to be others that still find your partner attractive (same goes for you, guys will still find you attractive even if you're taken). And unfortunately there are girls who still try to hit on taken guys even if the guy shows disinterest and doesn't do/say anything to lead them into thinking they would have a chance. It has nothing to do with the guy unless yes, he has purposely lead other girls to believe that they have a chance with him. Other than that, when shit like this happens, THAT is her fault not the guy's imo. And the girlfriend in that situation has every right to call her out because the other "girl" obviously doesn't respect the girlfriend or their relationship. When I read the lyrics of the entire song, it seems the lyrics are suggesting that the "girl" in this situation was hitting on him constantly and thus he was "sick and tired of it". Not because he was swayed by her lol. *hopefully I don't sound rude or anything, it was a bit difficult wording what I was trying to say ahaha*

I KNOW that you know Seulgi from Monster and Naughty and more recently from Queendom (actually, Wendy looks almost the same now as she did then; her hair is darker here but the same length as it was in Queendom). You got Winter just fine. I didn't recognize Karina, myself; I chalk that up to 'it's a newer group'. I didn't know BoA, I don't know anything about her at all from before this song. I know she is a big deal and has been for a long time (obviously, if she is First Generation). I didn't know any of that until looking things up after seeing this for the first time. I didn't recognize Hyoyeon, which is stupid of me, I really should have, BECAUSE.... I was first (very memorably) properly introduced to K-Pop by Taeyeon when her solo song 'I' came out in 2015. For me, she is the most recognizable person in this video even with the grey/ silver hair! It's her smile... After falling in love with 'I', I researched enough to find out about Girls Generation and I watched some of their stuff. TOO MANY MEMBERS for my stupid useless memory to keep track of so I moved on. But I will ALWAYS remember Taeyeon.

The Bridge was sooo good and Wendy’s notes 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼 however the production itself wasn’t it for me and I can’t comfortably play this in my car without cringing at the instrumentals 😓

The only part of this song that isn't legendary is the lyrics, which kinda suck when you consider that's its supposed to be about celebrating women. Singing about a man and putting down other women in the lyrics seems like a missed opportunity to me. Everything else was perfect though

SuperM: boys in different groups. GoT: girls in different generation (4 generation), and GoT all are Korean. Producer: Yoo Young Jin, SME very famous producer. (YYJ is producer for Aespa, NCT,....) The noise sound in this song is Dem Jointz. If you hear any song of SM groups got the noisy sound like this, it's Dem Jointz. SuperM, Exo, NCT usually collab with him. This group will not have a MV. I think SM just give the audiences a trial version. MV will release with Girls on top project with high budget. MV with high budget or just stage performance like this. Next time I don't think is Got the beat anymore.
