All the series take part in the same time (like during the same year) but each starts at slightly different point and progresses at it's own pace. So watching in the "production order" in one series you might see characters that are dead in the other. But also taki in mind that magic, science, cloning, necromancy and shapeshifting and many others exist in this universe so what you see is not always what you think.

Thats probably the funniest Opening reaction because you could not be more far away with your guess and your confidence just kills me :D "Toaru" just stands for "A Certain" and the names are different because they all focus on the different characters. "Magical Index" is basically the "main" story line and focuses on the dude with black hair and the girl with white Hair (her name is literally Index). "Scientific Railgun" is about the coin tossing girl (she is the railgun with her ability). "Scientific Accelerator" is the about the White haired guy (his ability has something to do with acceleration, but in a different way than you would think). Even though he is not Killlua from HunterXHunter or Kaneki from Tokyo Ghoul, i must admit i can see why you would think that. It all plays in the same world/universe but u can definetly say that its similar to the MCU with how they distributed it all. Yuu can watch them all independently (i myself just watched index), but obviously there are many connections and easter eggs etc. .

@lanytai2010 Жыл бұрын
"It looks quite light hearted." *Accelerator oppening begins* Seriously, you can't make this comedic timing up! 🤣 Thing is, you watched these slightly out of order. Index, Railgun and Accelerator are set in the same setting, but Index is the main series which is about a world split between science and religion, while the other two are spin offs focusing on other characters the main character crossed paths with, showing other things that were happening at the same time. The universe is so rich and the plot so packed that they had to do that to explain all the facades and multi layered plans many characters have in motion, and even then, they still get you out of guard when certain things connect in your head and you go "OH SHIT". This is why this series is my favorite anime series of all time. Fun fact: I never noticed the semblance between the characters you pointed out. It's merely coincidence btw.

I also love how, being one of the longest running series currently, Toaru has tackled so many genres and plots that many guesses from Luke weren't that far from what happen in some of them (some other guesses, on the other hand...) Characters like Accelerator are so famous and popular that works like Tokyo Ghoul take inspiration in the character for some of their own, be it in design or straight up struggles.

So (not so) quick rundown on the to aru series: The story is pretty much split into 3 different simultaneous routes and/or stories. The general setting is based around a culture where science and religion are very omnipresent. However the main location of interest is the academic city, where people develop powers not by divine intervention but by the influence of science, becoming "espers". The storylines divert as following: 1.- The main series storyline "to aru majutsu no index" or "a certain magical index" revolves around the black hair dude and the little white haired nun, and explores the ecclesiastic point of view of this world, as well as introducing motivations and general plot points for the main characters of the side storylines. It emphasizes the political aspects of religion when it comes to the power they hold in society and how it influences the direction churches take when found in a position of power. 2.- The first side storyline "to aru kagaku no railgun" or "a certain scientific railgun" is the story of the coin flipping girl, and centers around the life of espers, how are they ranked based on their capabilities and in general how the system in this big science based society works. It also involves a lot of subjects pertaining to the motivations of people higher up in the command chain of a society and how this motivations influence decisions when in a position of power and privilege 3.- The second side storyline "to aru kagaku no accelerator" or "a certain scientific accelerator" explores the story of the white haired guys, which is introduced early in INDEX and goes through massive chance character-wise. If I had to give a theme to this storyline, it would be humanity and the things that produce chance in an individual, as well as how our environment changes the way we view the world around us. The charm of this series is that stories intertwine themselves at certain points, so you´ll see, for example, a big explosion in one of the parts, just to later understand "oh wait, so the explosion i saw in the first series was actually this event taking part in the second series". Also since the characters are not with each other 100% of the time, you´ll see them having certain stances towards one another when they meet that you know are not necessarily correct, but you can understand since characters don´t have the entire context of each other. In general , I´d say it´s a very enjoyable series, a little heavy on the fanservicy aspects for my taste (although this is pretty much a staple of light novel based anime at this point), however this does not take away from the fact that it´s actually very interesting both in world building and characters. Also the fights are great and the creativity the author had with powers (specially on the scientific side of the spectrum) is truly remarkable. Totally recommend it, since Main characters are so diverse in personality that you´ll definitely find a part that resonates with you the most

This was funny to watch but loved the reaction as always, mate 😂 It's really not uncommon for anime characters to have certain similar looks/designs whether it happened intentionally(Like a nice little Easter egg/reference) or unintentionally. You don't need to look too deeply into that. The three shows are connected in one universe. A Certain Magical Index is the main series with the lead being the guy you called handsome. He's actually the lead of this whole series. A certain Scientific Railgun is a spin-off series with the lead being the girl who can use electromagnetic current to flick and fire coins like a Railgun. A certain Scientific Accelerator is another spin-off with the lead being the guy with white hair who constantly has an insane look on his face. No alternate universe or anything of that sort. Basically, The spin off series exists to give the lead character their own story as well as their perspective on what happened to some of the stories from the main series. There is a guide you can search on how to watch this show in chronological order if you ever plan to watch it since they are connected in one way or the other. Hopefully this helps.

I just love the way the cast size going up fried your brain to the point of elaborating a multiverse theory 😂 As always, spot on regarding quite a few things, but waaaaay off-base regarding a lot, especially the main plot 🤣 Others explained it before me, but "To Aru" means "A Certain", so that's, why you saw no "To Aru" but a mot of "A Certain something something". It's a shared universe between various series, telling the intertwined events happening to a cast of characters from various points of views. Others have likened it to the MCU in terms of structure, and it's rather accurate. Magical Index is about the story from the point of view of Touma, a loser by fate because his superpower is "being unlucky". It is the main series and the others build upon it. Scientific Railgun is about the story from the point of view of Misaka, 3rd most powerful Esper of the Academic City, and most powerful Electromaster. Scientific Accelerator is about Accelerator, top Esper of the Academic City. Not much is known about him, other than he is "invincible", his power being vector manipulation. That's about all I can say about it without spoiling. As far as order goes, chronologically it's Railgun 1, Index 1, Railgun S, Index 2, then you can watch Accelerator, Railgun T or Index 3 in whatever order. My advice: go with the order of release. Much simple that way. And finally, my advice: you should watch it. Like, really. These are kinda 3 interconnected series. I think it’s the closest thing anime got to something like the MCU. (Individual stories that intersect sometimes) Though all of these series (mostly) take place in the same city (the most scientifically advanced city in the world. Mostly populated by researchers and students). So unlike marvel you’re not getting something as wildly different like a ww2 movie like The First Avenger and a space adventure movie like The Guardians. It is interesting though seeing the difference sides of the city and how they interconnect through 3 viewpoints. Magic exists in this world but most people don’t know. So in the Railgun series you explore the scientific side with Mikasa’s crew (the lightning girl) and you explore the Magical underbelly in Index with Toma (the black haired dude). Though again, there is a lot of overlapping in these stories.

If you do, you can understand the timeline from the context, like Index episode 1 events taking place during late Railgun season 1, since some scenes are pretty much the same. Personally, I like recommending Railgun first as a whole show in itself, then if the person likes it, they can watch Index seasons 1 and 2, and Accelerator before season 3. Railgun is the most lighthearted-ish of the three, and it introduces the watcher to Academy City. Index introduces the church(es), and by the time one gets to Accelerator, they can understand the nuances on the confusion when both factions meet.

2 days late, but this is my time to shine! Everyone in the world has probably already told you everything you need to know. That Index is the main series, Railgun and Accelerator are spinoffs, the fact there's no alternate universes or crossover characters, etc. The Certain Series Project is not just my favourite novel series of all time, it's not just an anime franchise I highly enjoy watching from time to time, but it's literally my favourite _thing_ of all time! When I saw you upload this I actually screamed; both in delight, and then despair because I couldn't watch it until now. Thank you for giving this anime your time and, if you decide to watch it, make sure it's in the right order, unlike this playlist!

This is basically the Marval of anime. It has different story taking place in a same universe. A certain magical index, A certain Scientific Railgun and A certain Accelerator take place same world. And what's more Interesting if you watch both of the show you can see Different Perspective. Let's say a Episode on A certain magical index, in one scene there's a mc and another mc of the a certain scientific railgun. And surprised. if you watch the A certain scientific railgun, you can see the Perspective of the MC of that series.

The main character of this anime is the City itself but we're just mostly focused on one character's perspective of the City's story. In the Main story, that would be Kamijou Touma (Spiky hair dude). In the spinoff Railgun series, it would be Misaka Mikoto (the coin flipper). in another spinoff series it would be Accelerator (white hair crazy dude). The thing is, all of those is telling a story centered around 1 thing. The Academy City.

The Toaru series is one of my favorites and I'd like to see you react to it one day. It's has surprisingly dark undertones across all the series. I'm here hearing "That's the girl from Fairy Tail, right?!" and thinking "Man! I hope he reacts to Edens Zero now XD" In any case, to soothe some of the madness, Index, Railgun and Accelerator are 3 separate series showing different perspectives of events happening within the same story. *1-* Index is the main one, with Touma (black hair guy) and Index (short nun in white habit) as the main characters. *2-* Railgun is a spin-off following Misaka, the girl with eletric powers that shoots the coin like a railgun. *3-* Accelerator is another spin-off following Accelerator, who is the guy with white hair and an electronic collar that looks like he's insane.

A nice little thing from the openings is that Index and Railgun's OP overlap at various points. So for example in Index OP 1 when the black haired MC passes the Railgun MC at the vending machine, he carries on walking in his OP then trips over a can, In Railgun op 1the Index MC passes Railgun MC but its from the Railgun MC's perspective this time. Just a nice thing to further highlight how everyone is living their own life but in the same city still.

So this is a franchise. All the stories focus around one city where kids with esper abilities study (and be studied). All the stories are connected but Magical Index is the main story. But I like Railgun more. Railgun follows the girls with esper powers. The main character has electric powers and her signature move is to magnetically fire metal objects (usually coins) hence her nickname and the title being Railgun. Accelerator follows the creepy guy who is also an esper. He messes with the acceleration of things. Anything from redirecting bullets to reversing the blood flow inside the human body. Magical Index follows a guy who has the ability to cancel any supernatural stuff, either esper or magic. He gets paired up with the nun looking girl and dragged into troubles with the secret society of magic. Index focuses mainly on the magic stuff but the guy does get dragged into the events of the other two series. Railgun focuses on the day to day life and struggles of the esper students from the side of good. Accelerator focuses on the darker side of the espers with the main guy not really being a good guy.

Ok so basically... A Certain Magical Index is the main story, adapted from a Light Novel. Then there are many side stories like A Certain Scientific Railgun, Scientific Accelerator and others that dont have an anime. All of these revolve about a very scientifically advanced city called Academy City which researches esper powers and is trying to develop them in its students. The main story, Index, is actually about a hidden magic side of the world and its clash with the scientific esper powers. The main character lives in Academy City and meets a girl literally called Index Librorum Prohibitorum (The list of forbidden books) who is from the magic side and some magicians are after her and the 103000 grimoires she has. Although he has neither an esper power neither does he know magic, he has a mysterious power in his right hand that can negate both of the former. And with that power he is trying to do what he believes is good. Basically a scientific city vs a magic society, parts of the magic society battling each other or parts of the scientific city battling each other, with Touma (MC) in the middle of everything. Almost all the spin-offs (all of the adapted ones) are exclusively about the science side in Academy City. They are adapted from manga series written by the original author and drawn by many mangakas. Most of the spin-offs as well as the main story are still ongoing, with Index going on the longest, since 2004. Railgun being about the third best esper, Misaka Mikoto aka Railgun who can manipulate electricity (which has a shitton of use cases not just shocking people and shooting coins xd). Accelerator being about THE best esper who can manipulate any vector he wants and intensively interferes with the city's dark side. As a huge fan of the whole franchise, I belive it is very interestning, Kamachi Kazuma (the LN author) seems to never run out of interesting ideas. The problem is that the anime does not sell it well. Railgun is pretty good if you exclude the filler (second half of season 1 and 2, called Railgun and Railgun S respectively), Accelerator is aight but in this case so is the manga. But Index is quite rushed, especially in the latest season 3. Even then tho, I believe that it can definitelly be enjoyable, in the end, the anime got me into reading all the approx 50 volumes so it definitelly has something in it xd. Damn I always write a lot about Toaru. Oh btw the titles in japanese all start with Toaru, like A Certain... in english, so thats why its called that. Regardless if you decide to react to it, watch it by yourself or not watch it at all, I hope I answered some of your questions without revealing much, and thanks for the reaction ofc xd. Its always great to see new people reacting to Toaru xd.

LMAO I wrote this in the middle of the video, then went on to do something else and didnt expect what was coming xddd Well yea, completely wrong xdd Some of the characters' designs could be inspired by other works for sure, entirely possible of course, but I dont think they are supposed to resemble anyone, and even if they do, it is not important to the story at all xd. I can see that when you got focused on the idea that they are supposed to look "somehow" like characters from other shows you got stuck to that thought, because anime characters have many similar features and some Toaru designs are pretty generic, the biggest example being the MC Touma. But I 100% agree with Tatemiya looking like the Samurai Champloo guy xd. Not even the alternate reality part is right even tho the anime goes to some heights, its not as high as time travel or alt realities. But yea the OPs dont tell much more than that there are superpowers and fighting nuns xd.

@dpolaristar4634 Жыл бұрын
Some things you are missing. First off this playlist was in a strange order even though they are take place in the same universe (Much like Marvel) they are three different shows not different seasons of the same show, the main difference is which character they follow as the main character, and the other characters will show up in each others spin-offs from time to time and even sometimes show the same arc from a different perspective. Production Wise Index I came first, then Railgun, then Index II, then Railgun S, then Index III, then Accelerator, then Railgun T. That's also why you got a very different vibe with the Accelerator opening it was pasted in the middle of the Railgun ones for some reason. And all the Railgun OPs are done by the same Band fripside, you reading Kadokawa is just the company that own the Franchises and licensed the anime. The Main series is based off a Light Novel Series, and the Spin-offs are from Manga. (There are more spin-offs that do not have an anime yet and neither of the three series have been fully adapted.) A Certain Magical Index is the main series start Kamijou Touma (The blue haired guy that you said picks up all the chicks.) And Index (The Nun girl he is always with at the end of each Index OP) A Certain Scientific Railgun is a spin-off starts Mikoto Misaka the girl that flips the Coins. A Certain Scientific Accelerator is a spin-off starts the White Hair Guy named Accelerator. There are no multiverse shenanigans and its all the same timeline. Also its very common very similar character designs to show up across the industry and some of the stuff you mentioned are similar predates Index but a lot of it came after Index. As for what the franchise as a while is about, basically the main setting is Academy City an U.N private charter Industrial City State filled with Academic Institutions and Research Facilities where their technology is 20 years ahead of the rest of the world. (That is stuff the public sees the cutting edge stuff is even further.) What the City is most well known for is the Esper Power Curriculum where after undergoing a special curriculum Children can basically get a psychic ability where they warp reality in a super specific way. (The Girl with the Coin for example is an Electromaster that can control Electromagnetism her signature move where she flips the coin is her creating a "Railgun" Hence her nickname and the title of her spin-off.) Technically all students in Academy City have an Esper Power but some are so weak as to be useless and they are Level 0's. (The Ranking ranges from Level 0 - 5, with there only being 7 Level 5's of which Mikoto and Accelerator are the #3 and #1 Level 5 respectively.) HOWEVER there is also a secret underground world of the Occult that uses Magic based off Myths and Legends to emulate abilities from Legends, The Also tries to run the scenes from behind the curtain, most people are unaware of the existence of Magic, but there is a secret treaty between the two sides to stay out of each other way and there is a cold war between them. A Certain Magical Index focuses on the Two Sides more evenly and the main character Touma has an ability where his right hand can cancel supernatural powers (Whether its magic or esper powers.) And him getting involved in the two world, both the Magic Side with Underground Cabals and Academy Cities Seedy Underworld. Railgun focuses almost exclusively on the Science Side and Mikoto and her friends adventures in it, which start light hearted but eventually come across said Dark Side. Accelerator focuses on Accelerator himself and is exclusively about the Dark Side of Academy City. The Catchphrase of the series is "When Science and Magic cross paths A Story is Born." Another one often used is "It's Never a Dull Moment in this City." I will warn you the main series Index the anime doesn't do the source material justice, Season 1 and 2 are okay if a bit underwhelming compared to the Novels, Season 3 however is a dumpster fire we pretend doesn't exist. Railgun starts pretty okay but actually gets better and better and is mostly a great adaptation although they add a few anime original arcs and remove some scenes that would have helped the crossover. Accelerator as an anime is pretty good but not perfect but that's because it's better than the Manga spin-off which is honestly pretty bad and needed an edittor, the anime actually fixed a lot of the Manga's problems. Toaru just means "A Certain" as a shorthand for the entire universe (We use to call it Raildex until more spin-offs started coming out.)
@Enodoc Жыл бұрын
If you do decide to watch the series, I would recommend watching in production order for the first time (which I think is Index > Railgun > Index II > Railgun S > Index Movie > Index III > Accelerator > Railgun T) because it introduces the worldbuilding in the right order. Some will recommend watching in chronological (in-universe) order, but I think that only really works for second/repeat watches.

The best non spoiler summary i can give you is that this all takes place mostly in Academy City where scientific study is ahead by at least a decade. Most of the population are students with esper abilities designated 6 levels, from 0 (powerless or undetected ability) to 5 (currently highest level). The adults are mostly teachers and scientists. Since the city is trying to pursue scientific advancement, theres obviously dark experiments going on in the shadows. Chaos further ensues when magic is introduced. Also magic involves religious stuff, so yeah. Science vs Religion undertones (mostly in Index). For Railgun and Accelerator, its mostly the questionable ethics of scientific progress.

"ToAru" series talks about two sides of a society, the science vs magic, with each anime series covering one of the sides. - To Aru Majutsu no Index = Magic side with the protagonists being the black haired guy and the girl called "Index". - To Aru Kagaku no Railgun = Science side with the protagonist being Misaka Mikoto, also known as "Railgun". - The Accelerator one = It's a spinoff about the character known as "Accelerator". Note 1: these series focus on different aspects of the society and have individual stories, but these characters all coexist in the same city, appearing commonly in both stories. - Science side: people with super powers created by technology, these are called "espers". The main city divides espers into power rankings, while the girl "Railgun" and the guy "accelerator" are both some of the only Rank S espers, their top rank. - Magical side: people with magical powers (mages). They live in a hidden society, so the "science side" doesn't know they exist (like in Harry Potter, where wizard society is unknown). Note 2: "Index" is the main story, so it covers up the magical and science part in its story, while "Railgun" is all about the science side (afaik). Note 3: "Railgun" series was created because the character "Railgun" made too much success. Both series are action packaged, with "Index" being more complex and "Railgun" more light-hearted, if that makes sense.

The character designs might seem familiar in some ways because the mangaka that inspired the creators of the series were very prolific and kinda led to a prominent style from a lot of shows starting in the 90s The artistic inspirations are pretty wide, from "Get Backers" "Saiyuki Reload", "3x3 Eyes" "Gungrave" and Elfen Lied" to name a few. So many studios take reference to the style now that it's almost equated to "anime style" with J.C. Staff who made this one, has been refining for years.
