My tip: buy basic clothes and invest in goth shoes! I bought a pair of new rocks (on sale) about a year ago, wear it almost everyday and it makes every outfit look more dark! Going to thrifting events or online thrifting also helps, almost every person there has a few black clothes they are selling and if you buy much from them you might get a discount, don't look for things that are necessarily labeled goth because they might end up being more expensive. Nevertheless, there are things such as swaps, so if you have some clothing listed on your online thrifting website and want to swap, that's also a way to get new things for technically free! Great video🖤

Amazing tips! I'm totally with you on the shoes! I should try swaps, never done any before! 😊 Glad you enjoyed the video 🖤🖤🖤

lonely bat do you know of any brands that sell a size US5/5.5 in women’s? I have been searching for years but most start at a size 6. The only one that had my size was close to $200. With my job I can’t wear a pair of expensive shoes with the possibility of getting paint or ink on them....

I started making my own goth clothes by hand- no sewing machine- back in the 90's before I had internet. It would take me days lol. I couldn't afford clothes I wanted- even if I could I didn't know where to find them. Now I have a sewing machine and still make my own clothes. I do love that goth clothes are easier to find now though.

Like you (although I am a lot older than you sadly) I grew up in a time when there was no real "alternative" brands, there wasn't even Internet shopping for God's sake! We did have to be a bit more creative. I love that there are the brands now, although I don't really buy them. What I do adore are the Etsy stores which sell Goth jewellery and which are great quality and reasonably priced. Nobody has ever said you have to buy Killstar to be Goth. The whole issue seems very silly to me. Thank you for a sensible, measured and non histerical response. X
@MadalineMacabre5 жыл бұрын
That's exactly why I wanted to address the issue - because it is absolutely silly! I just kept seeing it pop up on the internet and eventually did some research on it and was shocked how this silly statement was blown out of proportion! Yeah, in the country where I was from internet shopping wasn't a thing for a very long time, so we also had to get creative! My favorite place to source "accessories" for my clothes was my granddads craft and tool box, he used to make jeans back in the day and had a lot of hardware left that I used to decorate everything I possibly could. Also safety pins were a god send hahaha 😂 I adore Etsy and all the wonderful things people make! 🖤

I loved your tips! When I first started there was no Killstar but of course there were also brands at that time...like Lip Service, lots of pricier bespoke lines run by fellow goths..Shrine, etc. I'm blanking on the names but we had online shopping too lol. I couldn't afford any of that so I just hunted for black clothes at the mall or haunted local thrift stores. 💜
@MadalineMacabre5 жыл бұрын
Oh yess, I remember eyeing Lip Service online and dreaming to own something one day haha! No "alternative" online shop would deliver to Latvia at the time! So I grew up thifting and diying most of my stuff 😁

Ages ago... Way back in the early 80's, I learned to sew. That way I got a good fit and the clothes much more flattering than off the rack. Eventually, I went to thrift stores and found things to alter or take the scissors to create something unique. These days good fabric is expensive but I still buy when I can so that I end up with a quality garment for the next 10 or so years. If I buy, it's just basics in black, usually on clearance racks or Walmart for under $10. This includes jeans and trousers. I often buy men's skinny jeans or slim trousers to better suit my naturally androgynous body.

Yep I agree with you. I found some black gothic clothes are cheap, be careful with not buy too much money on clothes and stuffs. My father teach me how to my own bughet bills for live, foods, bills, pay my son and ourself. Saving money up. My dad know how to do about accounting, saving, bughet and check all the bills. I learned from my dad when I were 21 years old to now. He passed away from lung cancer and my mom passed away too. Now I know what to do. I have lots of black clothes for now. I don’t buy right now not often. 👍🤟🏽🖤💀🦇⚰️🕸😊📱

I Up-cycle their belts and jewellery from Clirre's and am forever in Charity shops looking for things to Goth-up! I have also just done some shoe projects with plain boots from Shoe Zone. May I mention my channel where people can see some of these items?

Killstar is great and all, if you can afford it, but simple clothes can work great if you know how to style it. I work at a clothing store and although they tried to follow the latest trends and fashions, I still managed to make their clothing look goth for myself. The only thing I need to get it another plain black tee and tank top lol
@MadalineMacabre5 жыл бұрын
Yeah I need to stock up on some basics too 😁 Exactly, being stylish is all about having that personal touch and pairing things together in a certain way, not the cool brand names you wear. I like to have a healthy mix of both - brand stuff and just normal or drifted stuff 😁

Great Video , very level headed . Love how you covered both sides of the story. I think whats upsetting some of us is the sell sell sell of some Goths without taking into consideration there is those that just cant afford everything. You balanced it out . “ its great to buy but its also great to diy or adapt.” 😊 Subbed to you . I think you are very level headed and thats what we need👍
@MadalineMacabre5 жыл бұрын
Thank you! 😊 I understand that the price point can be frustrating, but also understand it from the business and production point of view. Quality clothes come at a cost and that's fair enough! And getting creative with clothing and accessories and gothifying ordinary things is so much fun, and you get a unique one of a kind piece at the end that is so much more special than any ready made item!

MADALINA Totally agree. Nothing nicer than someone telling you they love something to partly or completely created. Or asked where you bought it. Its good to be unique. Thank you for your reply 😊

Killstar is trash for me for the following reason - they stole a design from an artist on twitter. And their prints are generic. I can go to a thrift shop or a regular shop and buy a black tshirt, some bleach and draw on some prints. Other brands you mention, I have also heard some shady things about. And I am all for goth is music. Without music you are not goth, no matter how you spin it. Fashion is an afterthought or an extension of the individual. But if you like fashion and can't afford it, thrift and diy or die! 😋 Also, sales, sales, sales, ebay, other online stores (I personally shop for clothes and shoes on sportsdirect.com. They have sales all the time. I know it's a sports store, but you gotta check it out. I just check it's not from Killstar or other shady brands.)
@MadalineMacabre5 жыл бұрын
Oh, I didn't know that! 😱 Wow I would have never thought to check sports direct for clothes like ever hahaha
@ayla87385 жыл бұрын
@@MadalineMacabre Yes, and their prices are too high for a piece of clothing that's just... generic lol. And yes, I really recommend you check it out, haha. I recently purchased t.u.k. shoes for the half of the price that they originally were on the t.u.k. website. 😊

Shoes and accessories are the things to invest in or hunt down interesting versions of (so much cheap goth aligned jewellery on Etsy, or much cheaper on eBay, aliexpress or similar) - not so basic black items can be found in conventional stores all the time.

That was very well worded and well spoken. Good bits of advice. The whole thing at the beginning was like the voice of reason, so thank you for that. When I was in my baby bat years we used to treck to hot topic via bus or put together outfits in black with our own creativity. I used to look in pet stores for spiked collars and such. Online shopping was a pain with dial up and there were few Goth clothing sites aside from Lip-Service, and even that was mostly mail-order. I loved getting their catalogs in the mail. Another means was skimming through Gothic Beauty magazine and going through the ads to scope things out. Also a cool magazine to this day. (Wish it was still available in print format) Thanks so much for starting this series. It's really heplful.👍🌙👻💜💀

I saw this trend going on on instagram, and i understand where it may be started. Since last year it's very popular to dress in Nu Goth style, and Killstar embrased the trend immediatly to grow, he started to send a lots of stuff to his influencer, wich are not all goth! Btw I don't care hahahahah if a wear Killstar and I'm not goth for you,it's fine to me, i know who I am and I don't care of the label ;PPP

Buying things secondhand is the best thing ever :3 Like seriously about half of all of my clothes is thrifted, some of it is even from big brands originally. It's quite difficult to find deals like that since I live in a very small country, but it's still the best, because you get that feeling "wow it's restyle bag omg" but you spend only 15 dollars... xDD Shoes are the only big problem for me. My feet are very wide so there are not many shoes that fit. I actually only own 3 pairs at the time, all from one mainstream brand because they were the only ones that fit, but it seems that they changed the sizing or what and I can't buy any new ones x.x I'm terrified of ever buying new rocks or demonias, because they probably won't fit T-T Also can I ask, where are you from? :) I was trying to figure out the accent but it's better to ask.
@MadalineMacabre5 жыл бұрын
Love that! I live thrifting too, and nothing can beat a throated find from a favorite brand!! 😍 I'd go for Demonia, their chunky designs are pretty wide! Although they tend to wear out too quick for the price in my opinion, their faux leather is not the best. Or at least wasn't the best, I didn't buy any new Demonia shoes in quite a few years, so maybe the quality is improved! I'm Russian speaking, born and raised in Latvia and live in London :)

Seriously. Thrift stores. EBay. Jumble sales. Car boots. Yard sales and regular stores. Diy. Learning to sew and making your own. This is individuality. Maybe splurge on a name brand if you are going to wear it more than once, but don't buy everything because at some point you will bump into someone wearing the same thing
@MadalineMacabre5 жыл бұрын
Exactly! It's great that these days there are brands who cater towards the Goth and other alternative fashions, but individual style is how you pair things together and make it your own! Also I must say that thrifted finds feel so much more precious because they take effort to come by. 😊 Yeah sewing is an awesome skill, very handy! I alter most of my clothes (thrifted and new) to either make the fit better or change it up and make it more personal!
