Serious question, is streakiness a thing in chess? I will go runs where I will win 80% of my games, then go on ridiculous losing streaks. I never seem to just maintain a rank. I was finally almost a game away from finally being 1200. I've lost 12 of my last 13 games. This one is a bit exagerated, but I was thinking as I was on a good streak, you're about to start losing. so it has come to pass. super frustrating.

I experience the same thing, sometimes your brain is in chess mode and does really well, other times when your brain is preoccupied or distracted and is not in chess mode you will not play well. I also noticed in my games that I play better in certain times of day because I am more alert ig

I mean yeah it is insane, but there's a reason all top grandmasters started at very young ages. Kids brain just absorb knowledge MUCH better than adults. A 6 year old will get better at chess faster than any adult, no matter how smart or talented the adult is. Just neuroscience right there

Not really? Kids have a much easier time doing well in chess. There is a reason we see "new youngest GM" all the time. Yes, 10 is more advanced than 12 for sure, but him becoming GM at 10 is way less impressive to me than, say, a 40 year old who was introduced to the game 4 years back becoming GM. I don't even know if that is possible. I'm not trying to rain on his parade, he's obviously an incredible player, way better than me or any of us here will ever be. It is "impressive", I just really don't think it's as impressive as people are trying to make it out to be. If it was some other activity besides Chess where the advantage for being young isn't so HUGE then it would be more impressive.

Please don't get me wrong. It's obvious that players like Magnus or Hikaru are absolutely incredible players. However, if you take into account pure raw passion for the game, his ability to teach complex positions in a simple way and his ability to turn games around in a bat of an eye, Levy GothamChess is the best to ever do it. These are facts.

That's very nice, but it's just not true. Don't get me wrong I love levy and his videos, I wouldn't be here otherwise, but he has really just started getting better at not self destructing when things don't go as planned. And I'm elated because of this, but he still has a long way to go until his GM title. I do genuinely believe, without a doubt, that he can do it though!!
