The point of resigning is not to disrespect your opponent, because not resigning in a completely losing position implies that you don’t believe your opponent is able to close the game. It’s like when you have a pawn that you can’t stop in an end game and all you have is your king, not resigning means you don’t believe your opponent can checkmate you with the queen that he’ll get. While knowing that your opponent is well aware of how to do that, you resign to not waste time.

@WaluigiisthekingASmith2 жыл бұрын
Its actually not too difficult. Basically the idea is that your opponents king can move into a box with no moves and then whatever move you make if it isnt check or it doesn't open a square will be stalemate. The real question is how you still have castling rights when your opponent has nothing.

To people saying castle mate is more rare: you can set up a castle mate by force (for example, just don't move king and one rook the entire game, make two queens to force the king into the D or F file and castle). Setting up en passant mate is ridiculously difficult and often requires your opponent to make the moves to allow it to happen.

I've actually played a game as white where an early queen trade (Qxd8, Kxd8) left my opponent's king stuck in the middle of board unable to castle and on the completely open d-file. Later in the game I got a position where my opponent blundered making Rad1# possible. While looking at the move I thought I had not yet castled my king, so I cheekly decided to play 0-0-0 to place the queen's rook on d1 for mate. One caveat: this was a game between ~1200 ELO players so I doubt you'd see that line in a tourney.

In baseball, it is the bottom of the 9th (last) inning. The home team is up to bat and the score is tied. The bases are loaded. There might be 2 outs, and the count might be 3-2 (3 balls 2 strikes). The final pitch of the game, the pitcher throws the ball to the plate and its a bit wild - it hits the batter from the home team. He gets to advance for free to 1st base. The players on the bases all advance one space, and the man on 3rd base comes home and scores the winning run - for the win! (I think I got that right).

Just imagine naming your account some random words and checkmating magnus by en passant. What a legend

The two greatest things in chess combined at once, En Passant Checkmate 🙌🙌🙌🙌 The Hammer is the most used tool in construction and Jon Ludvig just constructed a masterpiece, against the world champion!

That would be an awesome collaboration. I haven't watched a ton of Magnus streams, but he has a deadpan sense of humor. He's such an intense competitor, but he knows how to relax and play for fun too. One guy demolishes and sometimes goofs around, the other goofs around and sometimes blunders into brilliant queen sacrifices. Sign me up.
