4:09 I believe they added en passant because they thought a pawn moving 2 tiles on its first move was too good without it being able to be taken, so they added en passant. It’s the same logic of why the king can’t castle through check, the king still travels through that square
@tychoswiskunde6891 Жыл бұрын
I always understood that originally the pawn could only move up one square, hence it "could have been taken" back then.
@azai.mp4 Жыл бұрын
I love the comparison with castling, seeing as they're both "special" moves for a piece that normally can only move one square at a time. (Although if you explain it this way, you know *someone's* going to go "But if the king has to move through each square when castling... how come it can move through the rook?" And they'd have a point lol)

The reason pawns can get passanted is because the 2 move rule was a patch to the game, a lot of players at the time thought it was really OP that you could just safely jump past opposing pawns, so they nerfed it by allowing you to take as if the pawn only moved 1 square! But you can only perform the passant for 1 turn

It's a pin, skewer attacks through a piece.. hence skewer. Pin is meant to lock your piece in place so said piece can be taken by making them waste a turn unpinning and losing the piece. Skewer takes behind , pin takes in front
@mlemcat6095 Жыл бұрын
6:45 loss of material by the skewer can be avoided after rook e1, by bishop c5 giving a check and if king moves to like h1 or f1, the bishop moves to e3 sacrificing iteself and if rook takes, queen takes back as the rook wouldnt be defended and infact black would be gaining material.

The way I like to think about en passant capture is to say that a pawn double-move is equivalent to moving the pawn one square, allowing the opponent to either capture with a pawn or not, and then moving the pawn a second square if the opponent didn't capture. If the opponent opts to capture the pawn after it moves one square, the pawn never reaches the second square, but does for one turn prevent the opponent from doing anything else (so if a pawn moves two squares to block a check and gets captured in passing, it will be deemed to have blocked the check). For consistency with these principles, if I were writing the rules for Duck Chess, I would specify that if a pawn is moved two spaces and the duck is placed behind it, the opponent may retroactively say that the pawn was moved one space and the duck placed in front of it, if the opponent then uses the opportunity to take the pawn immediately.

To me en passant can work like this. Imagine if a pawn represent a troupe of warrior on foot. When they are tired they only can walk the distance of one tile but because it's their first day of war, they can walk tow tiles because they are fresh. ( That could explain the reason the pawns can move tow tiles of distance the first time they move.) Imagine now that the trip to get the second tile spend in tow distance stages. At the first stage, they arrive at the first tile (In line of the enemy fire). If the enemy troupe decide to let them pass, they will reach the second tile. If not the enemy troupe will capture them and take they place before they arrive at the second tile. On the chess board they have no other way to make the moves work. Same thing append when a piece block the way of a king trying to castle. en passant means "as they pass" It's just the way i see it. :)

The reason for en passant is that the pawns move one square at a time, except the first move that they can go two squares. However, that doesn’t mean to take away the right of the opponent pawn that takes diagonally.

Been waiting for this. The teachable positions in Franks games are many. Let's see, castle early. If you have mate in one on the board play it. Castle early lest you are tempted to play aggressively leaving your king exposed and lose your queen in the process. Think about what your opponent can do to punish the move you are planning to make and if there is badness there, find another move. In the opening, develop your pieces before playing out of the norm moves. And always look for CCT's. Not just for yourself either.
