Pure beautiful swordsmanship

I wish the names were on the same side as the fencer instead of flipped.

These guys are excellent fighters. But I kind of don't like the Swordfish ruleset, where everybody goes for double hits and only accidental non-doubln hits score. - Yes with swordfish ruling the fights take longer, this gives more air time. But with counting double hits or maybe having hit points instead of points the opponents would fight more interesting. - Counting double hits could be exploited yes, by gaining advantage and then enforcing double hits. But I strongly believe a fighter should be somehow able to avoid being hit, so it's also the other ones fault to lose this way

To be fair .... The scoring system promotes rekless behaviour. If doubles counted for something these fencers would have been disqualified. There were more than 4 doubles and multiple flat and weak hits ....

2 exchanges I'd count as doubles, no weak hits that scored points. There is a major difference between a double and a successful strike followed by an afterblow. Can''t say much about flats, didn't see well enough.

@@penttikoivuniemi2146 After watching the match again more closely (at 0.25 speed .... btw the announcers sound rly funny ..) I noted 3 doubles (4.48 , 6.12 and 9.06) and one flat / weak hit (7.08). So my original assessment was indeed not correct .. there were more afterblows than I originally thought. Good observation sir !

@@bolingbroke92 I actually also remember dismissing this fight initially as boring linear point play with too much scrappy close-up fighting, but watching it again now it was much better than I thought.

@@penttikoivuniemi2146 I agree. It is indeed a good fight.

Yes swordfish ruling sucks. Not counting double hits make fighters careless and the fights become boring and ugly to watch. Even it they have excellent technique the rest of the time. At swordfish double hitting is a winning strategy. You just rely on a small amount of luck to sometimes not being double hit in unsafe attacks

HEMA looking like olympic fencing with extra steps.

"I think he hit him on the arm, knocks him down..." What? He clearly tripped in the slomo lol

Funny how it looks a lot like olympic fencing. I can understand why rapiers and small swords were chosen for dueling later on.

It shouldnt look like this. But this is how you fight when theres no risk of injury

Olbrychski is also an olympic fencer I think, that's why his movement looks like this. Kultaev on the other hand just likes to fence from the point-on type guards.

@@penttikoivuniemi2146 I see Kultaev in almost everything.

This is how it looks with no penalty for double hits. It becomes very boring for me to watch if the opponents do not fight a bit more carefully. And these guys here can if they want, I know it. It's just the Swordfish rules
