Your description of this music along with your memories of your grandmother’s backyard hit a real note with me. I was born in 1964, in Montgomery, Alabama. I grew up in a neighboring county outside Montgomery, but had in those days many relatives in that city. My family always had business and visitation in Montgomery. This was before any interstate highway(s). AM radio was all I remember back then, and my parents listened to either, or both, classical/symphony or Big Band. But there were times when my mother would tag along and listen to ‘60s soft rock because of my older sister, who was born in ‘56. Those early times my sister and mother shaped how I was exposed to that music are priceless. I recall my sister listening to that “long haired, hippie” music, and those times when all of that was going on. Along with those memories, kindergarten and all, I’m also forgetting how Vietnam used to scare me because of TV.

It's 'Signal Processing.' The assumption was / still is, so that everyone can hear it, the dynamic range is eliminated, the sound compressed, the low volume passages brought up, the peaks squished down, to a very narrow bandwidth of volume. This alters, changes the tone, the tonality of the sound, a lot, as we can hear between the sound of the original single, and this! For many years, the idea was to get max impact over substandard equipment: tinny transistor radios, average but not great car radios and speakers. Things have gradually improved, over the years, with F M Radio, better stereos and car systems. Still too much signal, sound manipulation.

According to the book in the 4 C D Box Set "Cameo - Parkway 1957 - 1967" Gamble and Huff began to be associated with Cameo - Parkway in 1964. After the demise of these labels, they took over the Cameo - Parkway headquarters and recording studio, in a sense making the Cameo - Parkway legacy, important again..

Hi to all in the Survivors from Joe Seddon (you knew me as Jody Sterling) lead singer/lead guitarist for "The Rubber Band." We were signed to Howie Michaels as you were, doing concerts w/you, and he died of a heart attack, canceling the tours we had on Cruise Ships to the Virgin Islands and Bermuda. So sorry to read that Richie has passed on? True? I`m sure you remember Tommy, our front man who played some great guitar, and Denny on keys. Gary Volpe on drums. A real wild man. He left after we quit the "Living Room" in Philly where we played opposite you guys along with Cookie Jar and The Krumbs. Gary joined the "Four Seasons." I was also there "w/The Monkey Men" out of Trenton. I`ve been trying to get in touch w/Cookie who is in Vegas now, but not easy. Will find him tho just to say hi and catch up. He was a great friend as was Billy Horner. (Sally Sayin` Something) Sadly, i learned that Jerry Marlo, our bass player, is no longer making music. He too left us. So, Charlie, if you get this note, drop a line to me at this tune: "Rock Me With Your Fever" by Joe Seddon and i`ll get a note back to you. Gonna` use this a a "mailbox" of sorts. Best to you all, think of you often, a great band and some mighty fine fellows in it. Joe p.s. I added a photo of "The Rubber Band" to "Rock Me With Your Fever" in honor of Jerry. This when we appeared twice on The "Jerry Blavett Dance Show." Jerry Marlo in on the far right, Tommy up front and myself, guitar. Jerry Blavett sent me an e-mail last month w/a photo of himself included from a nightclub in Philly where he is the D.J. So nice that he easily recalled us after so many groups had a spot there.
