Gouache & gel pen sketchbook painting with an old photo reference | Telling stories through art

Beginning a new work of art is quite exhilarating and I always anticipate real improvement in my results from the painting/drawing before. But a piece of art can quickly go flat if you are not interested in your photo reference (if you are using one). Choosing a photo, in the case of this video, a black and white from the 1920s-1930s, that you are truly jazzed over will help improve your chances for a successful creative outcome!
We're creative artists right? I believe all artists are storytellers as well. What does that mean? Find out as I take you back to a time with this photo I chose to paint from. Make your art read as a story for all who view it and capture the essence of a time gone by.
