I love painting from the car, if I can park in the perfect angle. It’s so cozy! And I can play my music through the loud speaker. Cup holder is great for my water dish

Wow. I never even thought of using the cup holder! Haha. Game changer! I do agree it’s kinda tough to find a good view sometimes. But when you do 🤘

Great work Danny - thanks for that! Limited palette exercises never get old, and they are a very practical way to get out there with a modest amount of kit and be creative! ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Hey Fiona!! Good to hear from you! Thank you so much. I really have been revisiting the limited palettes lately and it’s been a lot of fun mentally and art wise! This micro paintbox I’ve been trying out has really been a fun piece of kit to use as well.

Thank you for the video! What blue are you using with the Zorn palette?
@DannySabraArt Жыл бұрын
Hey Karen! For this painting I only used Cad red, Yellow Ochre and Ivory Black, but the other colors in the palette not used were Ultramarine Blue and Cad Yellow. I mix it up all the time but the tiny palette had six slots so I gave myself a couple extra options. If you’ve never used the zorn palette before it’s really nice for muted colors and helping you focus on tonal values and color temperatures! Highly recommend playing around with it!

Car plein airs are very common in my town's urban sketchers group becouse of climat. But gouache sketches are amazing and unusial. For example, you could work watercolors when it's freeze, but gouache will froze. Still, really enjoy your videos, your paintings are gorgeous and values work is amazing ❤

That’s so cool! Where is your town? The weather here has very cold winters and very hot summers so the car is my friend! Till recently I’ve struggled to find a decent set up for the car but the one I’m prototyping worked pretty well! I’ll keep experimenting. I know James gurney has a steering wheel easel he’s made and I could see trying something similar. I’d like to do something for an oil painting set up as well but we’ll see.

@Danny Sabra Art wow steering wheel easel sounds cool for me! About town (out of politics) it's north of european Russia and we have really short time of outdoor drawing. I use plastic board for my car sketch set and clip everything to it.

@@erina_aloe nothing to be ashamed of with your town! I’d love to visit Russia some day. Dostoyevsky is one of my favorite authors and I’m working on a Tchaikovsky piano piece right now. The Russian painters are some of my favorites of all time! How warm do your summer get? Our winters it’s often -9C and the summers it can get up to 40.5C. Quite unpleasant haha. That’s the American Midwest. But it’s my home and there’s much I love about it other than the weather. I always joke we have about two weeks of nice weather a year

@Danny Sabra Art we have one August week of +35C and common summer weather around +17 - +24 C, but other seasons not so warm of course 😅 Coldest part of winter is - 22 - - 32 C and I prefer to stay at home this weeks. I'm finishing outdoor sketching when autumn day temperature fall to - 9 C because it's point of watercolor freezing. You know it's kinda funny when you doing your washes and paper just don't get them, and pools of watercolors stays on top of your sketchbook as ice. Really unpredictable effects when you take this work onto warm place and its melted down 😄 Ballpoint pens freeze at -4 C. Some sketchers use pencils, oil paints (they can holds -25C) but I just use my car. When you turn off your car in winter you have 15-20 minutes for sketching and for USk it's OK. And all other seasons when you have winds and rains it so cozy and nice to be able to stay in your car, have a cup of coffee from home and time to do some art ❤

@@erina_aloe that is painfully cold! Haha! You are a hero for trying, but the car definitely make sense. I can see why people would try using oils although I know they get very so at a certain temperature. I’ve never thought about ballpoint pens freezing! That’s so fascinating. Have you ever tried using alcohol mixed with the water to prevent freezing? I’ve never tried it myself but I’ve heard it works. I can imagine if get some interesting results when a frozen piece melts haha! Maybe this is why they invented pencils 🤣

Cars are shaped like squashed down stop signs....hope that helps...it took me a long time to figure that out

That’s a neat way to think about it! I’ve been avoiding putting them in for far too long. But I’m enjoying seeing a bit of progress as I keep practicing!
