I do love the B&W images. I always feel they are more dramatic that their colour counterparts. I can easily convert the RAW images from my Fuji and Nikon cameras into various B&W versions but there is something special about the Leica with its dedicated sensor. I hope you enjoy your trip to London as I live here and get out as often as I can every week. So many photo opportunities.

A few years back I bought a new Monochrom, mounted a 50 Summicron and started a back to basics year. Doing this definitely improved my vision and I got some of the best images I’ve made in half a century of photography. Eventually I traded the Monochrom for a SL which became SL2 a few years later. But I still miss that Monochrom. It was a great camera.

The increased resolution on the m10 mono is due to the lack of bayer filtration. Same for the incredibly clean high ISO performance. I bought the m10 mono 4 months ago and have been choosing it over my m11-p regularly. Hope yours continues to serve you well!

Did you try an orange filter on your lenses with the M10M? I had a Q2 Monochrom and wish I never sold it. It produced superb images. I did get an M11 Monochrom later, so things aren’t so bad.

I’m in the situation that I “maybe” want to let go of my Q2M, to get the M11M so that I can use my M Lenses with it. But some of my best work ever is with the Q2M, and I’m really debating whether to do it or not :)

@@bopiyeff so in my head a GR is for everyday! And for that I want colour! It’s the same with why I picked a M10M rather than Q2M! I’d love a Q2 for casual shooting but in my head for that I’d like colour

Great video. I started B&W back in the day because it was all I could afford when I was a kid, and I could carry the process through all the steps from shooting to developing to print. I alway appreciated B&W and when I bought a Q2 monochrom there was a resurgence of my love of B&W photography. Now with the Q2 and M11 monochrom I find myself increasingly favoring B&W over color. I'll shoot colorful images but prefer interesting light and shadow and texture more.

HI, nice review. I hardly edit my images aside from levelling my horizon and +- my exposure a bit that is all. I have the M Mochrome246 , basically I it set to 1600ISO and at f8 that's it. And yes many do over cook ( Excess editing ) their images.

I was afraid to click and watch this video, since I feared I might get the urge to get a Leica Monochrome again ... and yes kinda do :D I had the Q2M in the past and speaking of first time experience, which will never return - the birth of my second daughter I only had the Q2M with me, therefore no color image from that day :D But it was a good decision since the lighting condition in the hospital was terrible, therefore the high ISO performance of these Monos did come handy. I have moved a lot of my Leica gear around and ended up for now with the Q3 43 and an MP black paint. If I want to do Mono, I go analogue for now. But it sure doesn't have the high ISO stuff, but gives you typical film photography challenges. Great video and awesome to hear you have more in the pipeline to share. Can't wait!

Interesting observations on B&W a couple of questions if I may, what/where did you get the very nice tripod standard lamp from? Did you go up to the castle while at Lake Bled I have not seen any top down pictures from you yet!

@@HadleyHope The lamps from John Lewis! We love it! Yes! They’ll be in the proper Lake Bled video! However the photos from up there didn’t turn out as well as I’d hoped!

I upgraded from the M9 Monochrom to the M10M and wanted to sell the original Monochrom. For a variety of reasons, this sale never materialised. After three years of neglect, I picked up the old Monochrom again last year and enjoy it now more than any other digital camera I have. So, even though the M10M or even the M11M are superior in their technical specs (and I appreciate especially the quiet shutter and good ISO performance), the images from the M9M have something special to them. I need less editing for them than for the M10M files... IN addition, I appreciate the M9M's status as being the first of its kind, so really a radical decision by Leica to build it in the first place. Long story short - right now I hold on to both Monochroms, but if one had to go at the moment, it would currently rather be the M10M...

Curious, have you tried to colorize any of those images in Photoshop? I'm glad you enjoyed it but I just don't like black and white when color is an option. Then again, maybe that's why I should try it out for an extended time to grow as you did. Solid video and looking forward to the Germany trip 👀

My philosophy today is if I want to shoot color - use my iPhone, If you want monochrom then I have my Q2M. After looking at my favorite images from the year before, I realized that they would be better in monochrome. That is why this summer I bought a used Q2M and have not look back. If definitely does make you a better photographer. Color for me is family snapshots to show family and text to relatives. I can see your KZbin phobia raising its ugly head. :). Good assessment about what B&W only brings to the game.

Partner the M10M with a Ricoh GR3, it’s pocketable and has plenty of resolution and presets to save on post ❤That’s my combo

I’m the opposite of you. I want to sell my color M10 and will keep my M10M. I fell in love with monochrome and it’s hard for me to put it down and use another camera. I’ve been using my M10M for over a year now, so it’s not a passing fancy. I have two Sony cameras for color.

The M10-Monochrom is the best current digital M, better than the M11 or M11-Monochrom, don't take my word for it, test an M11-Monochrom next to it. The mistake you made was not taking it to Lake Bled, you can only grow as a photographer by stepping out of your comfort zone and taking chances. Not by being bad and having room to improve, always playing it safe is the best way to stay the same

Set your M11 to RAW and JPEG, and use the M11 like your monochrome camera, shooting mono to JPEG, keeping the RAW as backup. You can carry on the ‘experiment’ with some redundancy.

I know it is not about the camera, I have been doing this (photography) for 46 years but in this specific case between the M11 and the M10-Monochrom the M10-Monochrom is the better camera, better than the M11-Monochrom too.
