Easy home made finch seed cleaner that works great. The attachment is made from a large clear plastic bottle with the bottom part cut off and also cut about an inch horizontally for air flow and for raking the seeds.

What is stopping the seed from getting sucked up and just the debris?

Question: How safe is it to (re) use this cleaned seed? Assuming I don't see any sines of webby bugs and it looks clean is it safe? How long after use can I keep it before cleaning if I do by batch? Bacteria / Virus spreading issues? I built the great working funnel but I want to make sure for the sake of my finches. Cheers and thank you for your informative video.

Hi Dave73, I have been using this seed cleaning process for several years now and I don't see any negative results and I believed that it cleans the seeds much better because when I clean up the vacuum can I see all the dust and bird poop after I use the strainer. My rule of thumb is to do recycle the seeds a couple of times and after that if there are more seeds that they don't consume I feed it the wild birds in my yard. By the way, I've never had an issue having webby bugs in my bird feeder. I always check it every morning. I hope this answers your questions and let me know if you need more information.

What size sieve did you use

Hi Johnny, I’ve used a 1.5 L plastic coffee creamer bottle and make sure that top opening will fit the vacuum hose

@@alex8426 hi. Thanks for replying. Ive made the vacuum part and it worked brilliantly. Its the size of the seive needed afterwards to seperate the poo from the left over seeds.

@@johnnymacf1 after the vacuum process I’ve used a pasta strainer that you’ll put the seeds and some of the poop and large seeds so you will end up with clean seeds to put back on the bird feeder. I hope this helps.
