I got lucky with mine. I bought the Visconti Homosapiens 25th Anniversary edition and it came with the Pen, Ink Pot, and two pen case. I thought it was a pretty good deal for the price I paid because the pen by itself cost as much as the package deal.

Compare it to viscountis pens and other accessories and the price isnt shocking. They are trying to make a prestegious pen brand, which while i dont agree with, marking up the price can do that. Also im sure they would have spent quite a long time designing and testing this pen, for a company that doesnt have as much volume as say pilot, they need to pay for the man hours somehow.

I got one and use it with the Visconti HS, bought it for around € 55,-- not cheap but totally worth it. One aspect not mentioned in the video, its safe for your nib, when filling out of a bottle you have a risk of damaging youre nib by accidently pushing it to the bottom. When allready buying rather expensive pens and inks, just throw in the extra for the pot, you wont regret it.

Hi Brian. I got the ink pot this week and tried it on my Platinum Kanasawa. I used water (just like you but without the pretty "blue"), which is a great idea for getting comfortable with it. It works great. I'm flying in a few days and look forward to having this with me.

you can substitute the blotting cotton with a cutted and rolled visconti blotting paper, that is better to use. btw, a great overview, as always. Don't forget that the password for Visconti products is: Elegance. With that patented Travelling Inkpot, you can refill your pen in every situation with elegance, without changing the pen or risking to spill a bottle of ink on the table. That is also a good way both to full fill your piston filler or vacuum filler pen, and to use till the last drop of your ink.

I've bought one of these a couple of years ago and I wouldn't want to miss it. Another argument for it is that it allows you to really completely use every last drop of your ink, whereas with a glas bottle it can be very difficult to take up the rest of the ink with the fountain pen, especially if it has a large nib like the Pelikan M800 or bigger. Btw is Visconti still (or again) producing the travelling inkwell? I thought they had discontinued it some years ago. I'm really glad to see you have it in your shop now.

Excellent vid as usual. The ink pot is a great tool. You can fill your pen(s) without getting any ink on your hands. I believe the wiping device is wool?...which is used for small spills and for wiping the nib if needed. I don't find the section wet after using the ink pot. It does work with the Aurora Optima quite well. I received a second one which was included with the 25th anniversary edition of the Visconti Homo Sapiens Steel, piston filler. That set comes with the pen, the Visconti leather double pen case and an ink pot, all for the regular retail cost of the pen. Nice set if you can find one around! Another advantage of the ink pot is that it is made to fit in a pen pouch/case. :)

Just an idea, on your website, you can put another section on the information page for the pens listed that says "Compatible with Visconti Inkpot? Yes/No". That way you won't have to tell people not to rely on the grip measurements. It will require you to test more pens on the Inkpot, however, you will be giving your customers more information; therefore, making them more informed and happy customers. Just an idea. May not be worth it. But I know I would.

The most affective & affordable method for traveling inkwells is just an empty sample vial (www.gouletpens.com/goulet-empty-ink-sample-vials/p/GP-10006). Hi, thanks for the informative and entertaining vid. I got a Stipula DaVinci and the way you tried to fill it wouldn't work. However, filling the DaVinci converter the recommended way is to remove the nib unit from the casing and then pit the nib into the well. I really would like to know if you can fill a DaVinci on the Visconti travel inkwell with the "blank" nib unit. Would you mind checking?

Unfortunately, we no longer carry Stipula brands, so we don't have the pen to check that for you. But the range is 9.2mm-13.2mm, so if you can measure the diameter of just the nib unit and converter, that should give you an answer. Most bare nib units end up being pretty thin and wouldn't work with this, similar to the Pilot VP. - Colin

Hi, I currently have a problem with the pot. I accidentally pushed the pilot metropolitan a little too hard and now the grip is stuck inside the inkwell. Is there anyway to remove the grip from inside or is all hope is lost ?

Great Video Brian, I have been researching this Visconti Traveling Inkwell and the TWSBI Vac 20 inkwell since I have a TWSBI Vac 700. Do you have any recommendations between those two options?

+John Jones The Vac 20A is the way to go (the Vac20 is discontinued, but it's very very similar). It is way cheaper than the Visconti and fits the Vac700 perfectly. If you mainly use the TWSBI then it's the way to go, but if you use a lot of others, then the Visconti would be better b/c it's more universal. -Brian Goulet

For the thinner pens, like the vanishing point, the ink pot could probably be used like a standard ink bottle? Keep the ink pot vertical, dip in, fill, close?

this is a fantastic review of an ink well, ink pot, ink barrel whatever they want to call it ... such sleek design, btw all was great till i hear the price that was the TKO the real MAIN POINT !! for USD70 i can get all sorts of barrel container any shape, buy a couple more expensively unique inks, a top notch fountain pen, decent demonstrator or spare nibs !! Then again very nice tool does the job perfectly and surely helps Vacuum type pens glad to know.

Another gripe people have is it can only hold one ink, so it really only benefits one of your pens at a time. That is, if you don't like multiple pens inked up with the same ink like many people.

It does depend a bit on the ink, but anything low maintenance (non-permanent/non-shimmer/etc), I think it's fine to keep in a pen a couple months. Beyond that, you'll run into some flow issues and makes cleaning much harder. I tend to clean my pens out once a month. - Colin

If I'm travelling I want to keep it simple. This looks like a lovely item, but if I'm travelling I don't think I want to be dealing with turning anything upside down that is containing ink 😁

Here's an idea: have a giant tank. What annoy me is huge, think, wide body pens and to discover they have tiny reservoirs. For the size of this Travel Well, put a NIB on it. I'll go for something like that!

Thanks, I'll take a look at it! If I have access to a lathe, I wold build me my "perfect" fountain pen. it will be mildly heavier than most. Brass construction. It won't be "thick" as high end pens try to distinguish themselves with some physical attribute. It will be inspired by Kor-i-noor technical drawing pens I used and their brass body mechanical pencil. The nib part, I might just not re-invent the wheel and use someone's off the shelf hardware. Ignore me, I'm just having an emotional connection with a fictional fountain pen. (humor)
