Parker's with the Metallic Pursuit finish are absolutely gorgeous. One of my favorite finishes.

I've never seen such a detailed instruction manual for a pen. I'd use it to catch my ink blots.

I konw this is a very old video, but I've only just come across it. I'm looking to get a new fountain pen myself, and I love Parkers. I've actually still got a REALLY old Vector Fountain pen (from my school days), and an IM fountain pen from when I was at music college. 1995. I think I can answer the question about the differences between the Urban and Urban premium though. The Premium has the semi-hooded nib, and the standard urban doesn't. Also, the body details, section, and decor are different too. Looks like I might be getting BOTH versions now though. Or possibly and Urban Premium and a Sonnet. hehe Thanks, rather belatedly, for the cool video. xx

I have 2 Urban's, these are an amazing pen for the money. It always amazes me the flack Parker seems to get. Side by side with the Sonnet which I also have the urban wins hands down. Compared to a Lamy 2000 the Urban holds it's own though not 100% ; it is 1/2 the price so keep that in mind. Personally I love using Goulet pens as you are awesome in all aspects I look for in a company ! I hope Parker stays on, as personally I am a huge fan. Keep up the great work ! Thanks Brian. - Aaron S.

I recently discovered my Cross Century II, purchased in 1990 as a self reward as I was nearly done my university studies. I purchased some Blue/Black ink cartridges and now take great pleasure writing my notes.

That is great Christian ! I aside from shaving have a pretty strong hobby in fountain pens and calligraphy. The Cross Century II which is discontinued I recently was offered for almost $400 it was in 24k gold...I passed on buying it but that is an excellent pen ! Is yours a Fountain or, ballpoint ?
10 жыл бұрын
It's a fountain pen (chrome finish) and my only one. Wow, $400 for that pen, which must be a collector's item is a good chunk of change = pallet of DE blades! Haha. I use my pen to write notes at home and will someday place it as a heirloom in my treasure box. Apparently there are lots of wet shavers who are also into fountain pen. For now, I'll tame my AD for shaving products only, although I do love collecting.

Hi guys i was just wondering if a metal disk in the feed is normal. It was around the thing that punctures the cartridge and it was slightly angled. If someone could respond quickly it would be much appreciated

If I didn't admire your judgment and value your attention to detail, I wouldn't be recommending some changes in the way this review is put together. So if you can view constructive criticism as a form of compliment, then you will understand why I'm making these observations. The first 14 minutes of this 18-minute review are entirely about the physical pen--color, material, weight, etc. Not until those details are covered to we get to how it writes, and then with only one ink on only one kind of paper. (Imagine a book review divided in that way: 75 percent devoted to the quality of the binding, the typography, the paper...and the last bit focused on whether the book was worth reading.) Those of us who actually use pens, and I'm sure that includes our esteemed reviewer, generally find ourselves using them with a variety of papers, including the stuff that come out of cash registers or the checks we sign, or the contracts, and often we use more than one ink, since some circumstances actually demand blue and those of us who still grade papers may prefer to use red. Some of us aren't all that happy with Noodlers and others don't use Rhodia pads. We carry our pens around for hours or days, but want them to perform as soon as nib touches paper. We do want to know how quickly a pen will dry out while sitting uncapped on our desk. So the sort of review that would increase the likelihood that we would order a pen would certainly not stint on the look and feel part, but would give at least equal time to how the thing performs when it is being used for its intended purpose. Ideally this review would give both areas of interest equal attention, and I wouldn't object to an indication of where the part about the pen's actual performance began. Speaking only for myself I'd go there first and if it didn't perform all that well I could just move along to the next review. Again, this is not a complaint about the detailed description of the pen, but a respectful wish that your attention to its ability to write in the real world were at least as rigorous.

in 2021 they have them in F nib also. to me it's the most successful model of all the Parkers in a moderate price range. I have three of them, I love the F line it makes, you can write with it even on a cheaper paper without ink showing through. It's very economical

One thing I remember about the Parker refills (I now prefer using ink and converter) is that when you "ran out" of ink, you could tap the top of the refill and more ink would be released so that you could finish what you were writing. Do they still work like that, Brian?

I have a Parker Urban in black and have a converter for it. It is a very nice pen. I really like the color of this one and I like yellow too! Interesting they would put the time and money into a pen that commemorates the Sapphire ink, but not bring the ink itself back. Go figure?
@GwynethSleuth

I agree so much about the ink. I have a Parker Urban in Black and I use Noodlers Zhivago in it...it's a strange color (green-black?) but it looks good and works well with the Urban. But I miss the Sapphire ink of which I have a tiny quantity from years ago and hesitate to use it...yet I think it might run dry....

Hey Brian, very good review, it's actually for the second time I'm watching it, the first time the shape and color of the pen didn't impress me (things have obviously changed now..). Just wanted to say that I own a Parker IM and I discovered one day that it works with a Lamy converter as well. I don't know if it's only for the IMs (that's the only Parker I've got), but it fits just as well as the original Parker converter (which actually broke in two the first time I ever used it..)

Your observation that the Premier you review here seems a bit lighter than the other Urban is probably accurate. I own an Urban purchased a couple of years ago and it's made from brass. In fact, there's a scratch on the body of my pen that exposed the brass. Looks like the price point didn't change when the materials did, though ;)

So strange how Parker pens aren’t that popular here in the US. I lived in Europe for a number of years, and I bought several fountain pens. Almost every store had some cheap $5 fountain pens, or Parker pens. It seemed like the norm. But idk though. Maybe I wasn’t paying attention.

Hey Brian, thanks for this thorough review. I've an Urban with medium nib on the way. I've no experience with modern Parker pens, so I thought I'd check one out. A lawyer that uses our library has an Urban and says he likes it, so If my experience is similar to his and yours, I expect that I'll enjoy it.

This pen looks exactly like the urban one I have in blue. But I don't think its this edition as I've had it for months. Only complaints I have about the pen ( speaking from the one I own) is the section feels really cheap. Its hard to explain but it feels plasticy. Most sections are plastic however this one feels really cheap. Also, the coating isn't very rigged. It seem like the pen was dipped into the coating and it didn't bond well. Mine developed a crack in the coating and I can tell I can..

Easily take off the rest and it would come off in flakes, which is a bad sign a coating should have to be scrapped off or removed using solvents not simply flake off, and the coating under the clip end has already come off from just the end of the clip rubbing against it. Mine has the sorts of metallic yet flat look of this pen. Irk if the glossy versions are more robust. My .02
@Gouletpens
@Gouletpens 11 жыл бұрын
I can't really speak about that as I'm unsure if what you have is the same pen (it's probably not vastly different). The grip of this pen is metal though, and the plastic feel of it is the lacquer coating that's overtop of the metal.
@Vermiliontea
@Vermiliontea 10 жыл бұрын
Parker never made any pen like the one you're describing. If it really says "Parker", it's likely a fake made in Nigeria or somewhere. The Urban models are all metallic. What's more, the finish on this model is not a coating, it's a chromatic interference layer anodized of the aluminum body.
