They had another Faust Salute Demure tenor sing off. FIfteen tenors were featured. They did not include Di Stefano which makes NO sense whatsoever. This particular sing off got it right. Di Stefano shows amazing sick talent, holding the note for between 10-11 seconds and the diminuendo to an exquisite pianissimo.

Sabbatini takes the diminuendo prize in this compilation, IMO. Why is this tenor not better known? Actually aria is beautifully shaped & sung & some others here are exemplary as well, however that particular moment near the end is the best. I have yet to hear & that comes from a Di Stefano & Björling devotee.

They were all good except for the Flat Domingo, Caruso by the way always sang the High C in Faust at the Met and especially at Covent Garden, his 1906 recording is incredible for its fidelity of that time. No modern tricks there!

Sabatini gets my vote. Too bad no Alain Vanzo!

Many excellent ones in here, but Nicolai Gedda will always be my favorite in this aria. When he sings the C, it feels like the sun comes out!

The tenors who reign supreme for me are Enrico Caruso, Georges Thill, Jussi Björling, Franco Corelli, Giuseppe di Stefano, Nicolai Gedda, and Alfredo Kraus. They embodied Faust's ardent nobility and handsome virility exceedingly well, and their High Cs tell the result of their excellence.

Sabbatini il migliore perchè smorza in modo incredibile il do naturale, buono anche Di Stefano, gli altri si limitano ad un bellissimo do in fortissimo

Have to hand it to di Stefano and - as usual - Corelli on this one.

What about including pavoratti?

I want to say that you saved the best for last but then I would not be accurate because I replayed the collection and found at least seven other tenors that I loved. Unless the performer it totally unprepared it seems as if it's mainly a matter of taste. I found Georges Thill's rendition the most moving.

Three months later and I find that I prefer De Stefano's rendition.

Fisichella was the bomb. Sabbatini was great too. I love Bjorling and I thought Bonisolli was pretty good. Keep up the good work!

Jerry Hadley is for sure the most accurately in French style!

Euh... Non. Le plus représentatif du style français est incontestablement Georges Thill.

I really like Bonisolli and Gedda. The briefly great DiStefano had a superb high note with a beautiful pianissimo. So sad he ruined his wonderful lyric tenor voice by taking on those heavier dramatic roles.

although not included in this selection a recording by Webster Booth is well worth listening to.His pristine attack on the high C is truly remarkable.
