Just 2 interesting (I hope) observations about the Gouritz catchment area. I lived in Mosselbay for a couple of years and during that time I explored the Coastal area, the Little Karoo and beyond extensively with a particular interest in the Gouritz river and it's tributaries as well as the 2 mountain ranges namely the Outeniqua range and the Swartberg range. Observation 1: Passing over the Gouritz bridge at Vanwyksdorp I noticed on my GPS that the elevation is only 100m. In other words, only 100m above sea level. Back home I measured on the map the river length from that point to where the river flows into the sea at Gouritsmond. The length is 150km which works out at a gradient of only 1:1500 or 1meter in one and a half km! The gradient of a sewer line is 1:40! Observation 2: Although the Gouritz river and it's tributaries like the Touws, Buffels, Groot, Gamka, Olifants, Kammanassie, Traka cut in 5 places through the mighty Swartberg range to form 5 Poorts namely Buffels, Seweweke, Gamka, Meirings and Tower poorts, they all join to form the Gouritz and cut only at one place near Herbertsdale through the Outeniqua range to form a poort aptly called Die Poort.

This is great info👏👏. If the river is only 100m that means it drops almost 400 odd meters from the source according to wiki which notes it as about 500odd. Must be some vertical drops somewhere. Sounds like you and I need another trip 😜 Thanks for watching

@@troopyinafrica Jip, the Gouritz starts off as the Gamka, on the mountains right in the North East corner of the Karoo National Park, there by Beaufort West.

@troopyinafrica amazing videos. I'm really enjoying your channel. Have you done anything to your engine, or is it the stock 4.2 IHZ? Also, may I ask what are your fuel consumption figures? I'm strongly considering doing something similar.
