If you really think about this, just using common sense and logic,it makes zero sense. How can a law abiding Illinois firearms owner register their firearms if the final rules aren't even in place yet? The deadline is 12/31/23 and the final rules may not even be published until Feb of 2024. If this isn't a classic trap or a huge "gotcha" I don't what is. And lastly shame on Justice Barrett for not using an ounce of common sense to place an injunction on this nonsense until the actual rules have been finalized and published. This my friends is just crazy. I am so confused it's scary. I've never seen a circus like this in my entire life.

How does a registry help law enforcement when a crime is committed? Unless they catch the person with the firearm how they going to know if the crime was committed with a banned gun? And even if they know what kind of gun are they going to start knocking on doors of everyone that registered that type gun? Gov Jaba the Hut is so full of crap! Bishop, a note on asking "why": it would be very informative to provide a variant on the question that gives the governor more agency and responsibility for how he answers. For instance, "why have a registry" is rather targeted with a common, safe answer, "to reduce firearm misuse/violence and tragedies". Perhaps a different approach can be more revealing, such as "what alternative policies/strategies were considered instead of a registry, and why were they rejected in favor of the registry?" The answer reveals how much investment was placed into solving the issue from different angles through their ability to name the different methods and the depth of detail they can reveal on the spot.

"Why" is probably the best open ended quesion, you can aim it in a certain direction and still keep it non spicific enough to gather a lot of information. You could also ask questions framed like they were from the left where the quiet part is presupposed like "How will having a regeneration help us get the guns off the streets", "how will we use that information to prosecute gun owners" "how will we use information from the registration to put pressure on gun owners"
