@yodawg3469 that is entirely untrue. If you are not breaking a law then the government has no right to harass you. The Fourth Amendment restricts the government from being deprived of their "privileges" without due process. "No person shall ... be deprived of life, liberty, or property without due process of the law." This on its face removes our liberty to travel by vehicle without due process. Additionally, we don't have "privileges," we have liberties which cannot be deprived without due process. Just because something isn't explicitly a right doesn't mean the government can all of a sudden have full dominion over the activity. The nineteenth amendment states "The enumeration in the Constitution ... shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people." We have rights that must be acknowledged even if they are not listed explicitly in the constitution, one of which is the fundamental right of movement which driving certain facilitates and therefore cannot be infringed upon without due process.

These BAC ignition locks have been available, and court ordered for DUI offenders for decades. I actually did some work for one of the companies that supplies them and asked what it would cost to have one installed in my car if I just wanted it voluntarily. It was approximately $280.00 installed. That seems pretty cheap to me. The reason I inquired if I'm being honest is that at .08-.12 I feel fine. I wonder how many of us have come off the golf course or the lake or from a business meeting, maybe even a dinner out with the wife with a bottle of wine and were over the limit without knowing it. This simple device is far less expensive than a DUI. Remember, you may feel fine and someone can crash into you while you're stopped and if a cop detects alcohol on your breath they can test you and you're in big trouble. Even if you weren't at fault you will be treated as if you were. If there is an injury the penalties are worse. I've often thought that the only reason they aren't mandated already is because of the massive amount of money the states and lawyers make on DUI cases. Now instead of a well-intended person getting behind the wheel and driving they may have to go back in and get a cup of coffee and wait an hour before going home. It may also prevent someone from drinking that second glass of wine knowing that they won't be able to start the car. I could see the kill switch thing being abused so I hope it will require some special authorization for high-speed fleeing suspects and/or stolen vehicles. Insurance rates and injury during high-speed pursuits should decrease. The driving monitors already exist. My Ford will tell me to pay attention if I keep getting too close to the lines. These are both, common sense use of technology to me.
