Governor Garry Juffa highlights plight of Biage people at ANZAC Day Dawn Service

During the ANZAC Day Dawn Service at Isurava, Northern (Oro) Governor Hon. Garry Juffa brought attention to the challenges faced by the Biage people along the Kokoda Trail. This solemn event saw the presence of Australian Prime Minister Hon. Anthony Albanese and Papua New Guinea Prime Minister Hon. James Marape, who joined Governor Juffa in a two-day trek from Kokoda to Isurava.
Governor Juffa emphasised the significant sacrifices made by the Biage people during World War II and their ongoing commitment to preserving their land's historical importance. Despite modern pressures, including mining and road construction, the Biage people steadfastly protect their territory, ensuring its integrity for future generations.

Thank you honorable Juffa. I always wonder if our local people who were part of the fight to defend our place can be given recognition too like the Australians. There are many who have died and gone and their names and deeds are silent.
