Lovely. I had fun doing this and by all appearances so did the other "Prospect"s. That man in front the band was so very unique and special! Val Morris’ career started in his teens playing guitar, trumpet and steel-pan. At twenty he was already cofounder for the Boston Tigers Steelband from “up de village” as the area around his home on Wigley Avenue was called. He had also joined the Defence Force Band under the tutelage of Edgar Bridgewater and broadened his instrumental proficiency to include bass, piano and all the brass instruments. Then he started a popular dance band, the Val Morris Orchestra. Many years later after Captain Bridgewater had left, he also took over the reins at the Defence Force Band. His influence on music in St. Kitts-Nevis is ubiquitous. From 1950-2010 he worked tirelessly at developing himself and other musicians; neophyte or professional it didn’t matter; lending his many talents, as musician, teacher, arranger, advisor, organizer and facilitator, to all. Val was an ebullient, generous, funny and slyly reserved gentleman who saved his messages, insights, proclamations, brilliance and bombast for the music. He died peacefully at 85 in 2019.
