Was there for several months for Class A School in 1973 when it was still a Coast Guard Base and it was a beautiful, quiet oasis just a few hundred yards away from the tip of Manhattan. There were several Cutters and Bouytenders stationed there, along with Barracks and Class A Schools for several of the CG ratings. The views of the city lit up at night were spectacular. It was a shame that the Coast Guard ever gave it up.

When my family visited NYC in 1980 we stayed in the barracks (my dad was a naval officer) and that was a neat experience. It must really have been something to have lived there. Thanks for sharing!
