Knowing that Beera is a highly revered and respected by his people, knowing that women love him, knowing that he is a man of principles, a sheer jealousy and complex is born out of Ram, thinking his wife might have not resisted the qualities and persona of Beera... This complex, suspicion can be seen when he is seen moving the pictures of beera and ragni one after another which led to deep jealousy towards beera and his men... His jealosy led to the killing of this innocent man who had brought peace. In a preveding scene of the movie when Beera asks ragni about his husband, and she mentions about the qualities of his husbend to which beera replies and accepts that he feels jealous, as he is burning with jealosy and this jealousy has made him powerful. Indeed jealousy has made him so powerful to the point where he can sent his brother for peace, while Ram gets blinded by jealosy and suspects his wife later. In the actual Ramayana a brother of Ravana, vibishena came with peace to seek refuge with Rama, here in this movie Beera's brother also seek peace like Vibeshena but in Mani Ratnams movie the brother is killed, i guess mani ratnam in this movie is questioning the Brahmanic writings of Ramayana, who belittle Ravana. thereby, in this movie, he elivates Ravana bove Ram.

Subversion of Hindu Epics. Bollywood filmmakers were just obsessed with this idea. This was a good film but was it necessary? Creating a movie in which "Ravana" is the good guy and "Rama" is the bad guy. Trying to justify Beera's or Ravana's "point of view", why he forcefully kidnaps a descent, married woman. This film's story tries to explain Beera or "Ravana's" decision and cleverly includes anti-establishment, anti-police, and pro-Naxalite themes. Great. All good. But they could have called this film anything. They could have named it Beera. They could have called it Badla, Dev vs Beera. Anything. Why did they choose to name it Ravana and forcefully connect it to a revered Hindu scripture cause this was NOT the story of Ramayan. Why is this industry so rabidly Hinduphobic?

Different people will have different interpretations, versions and depictions of the same thing and we cannot stop anyone from making what they want. Because Ravana was the better guy at least for sita. He stood up for his sister, wanted to marry sita, didn't give a damn about sitas past she had spent 13 yrs with Ram as a wife. What would have Ravan done if any washerman of his kingdom, had come n called his wife Character less??? How does "attempt to rape" suddenly becomes love for Maniratnam and EVR supporters? Hanuman escaped heroically, he wasn't let off by Ravan with mercy. Distorting core points in Valmiki Ramayana with EVRism Jaundice made the film Bomb at box office. No wonder. U can take cinematic Liberty about how Jesus was crucified. You can't show that Jesus was not crucified and was fighting Jin JutSu and killed his attackers.
