Watching this video has improved my shotgun skill massively, thank you

No sweat. Oddly enough, I'm a COD/Halo guy by nature. And, even when I took a break from Gears for a minute, I still watched all of your content. Your commentary is boss because you stay on the game. (you don't talk about STDs, or prom dates, or s**t that I just don't want to hear) Your gameplay is genuine in it's reflection of skill, and is always helpful and interesting to watch. Nobody does both better, IMO. Keep it up, man. Just no Pokemon, please. HA!!!

I think it's common acceptance among the competitive and pro community that actives would be considered one of the most important aspects of shotgunning. In short range shotgunning (unless you're specifically talking about gibs), it's the difference between a 1-shot down or a 2-shot down. Stressing the importance of Actives is building awareness, not necessarily aimed at improving your shotgun skill.

I recommend playing with whatever feels the most comfortable. I switched to Alternate because I wanted to stop rolling when I wanted to wall bounce. If that's not a problem for you, it's really not something you should consider. It takes awhile to get used to the scheme.

I answered a similar question in another comment. I've been playing so long that most of my reactions are based on instinct (I kind of elaborated on that more towards the end of the vid). Because I've played so long it's much easier for me to process what's going to happen and react accordingly. The slow motion breakdown is simply elaborating on my general thought process of my play style, so that everyone can get an idea of what is going on.

Good video. I don't care that it's been done before. The camera and shooting angles are tricky in Gears and repetition helps. Raam's Shadow DLC with infinite ammo is good for practice because it throws a lot of regular Locust (no Lambent) at you.

Heck even in LB's video, which mind you is the reason I didn't elaborate on it, he demonstrates the difference between a 1-shot active down at "mid range" and a two shot down. Starts around the 3 minute mark. Fundamentally I feel like the competitive community has a different vastly different mindset if that's one of your main disagreeing points.

The longer you play the game the easier it becomes to read what your opponents are going to do. I am more so reacting by instinct because I've played Gears for so long, so my thought process and analyzing the playing field is very quick.
@Arcticvbi12 жыл бұрын
My point of reference other than the tip of my barrel? You need to elaborate a bit on that question. I pretty much showed where I'm aiming with that red box (from hipfire).

Odds are, at the highest level of play in this game, you're not going to be in a situation where you can afford to go for gibs. The risk/reward just isn't there if you're thinking about what's at stake for your team. You also won't be in scenarios where you're 1v1 against someone for 10 seconds without being fired upon. It would be unwise, situationally, to expect to get a gib and/or not maintain range to get an active 1-shot down, so yes it's definitely the common feeling.
@Fixlarz12 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the tips, lookin forward to that movement video! Also, could you include a tip for how to wallbounce really quickly? I've seen a lot of videos where people start wallbouncing like crazy in a narrow hallway and I just can't seem to get the hang of it. Am I not pressing A quickly enough, is it because I use alternate control scheme that I can't wallbounce that far or am I not moving the left stick quickly enough from left to right? Seeing your hands while doing this would be the best :]

Have you tried gore off in gears 3? I love how when i hard aim or pop shot it shows these lines that lets me know how many of the pellets hit the player. Its a small advantage but a pretty good 1 IMO that is underused by alot of players. Thoughts?

That's the thing. I keep rolling so I try alternate, but it's so hard to get used to after playing on normal for so long. I would eventually learn, but I don't want to go through the painful process of dying a thousand times before I do!
@chefbakercook11 жыл бұрын
If you want to get used to the scheme. Play solo with bots on checkout. Practice just your wall bounce, and then practice jumping around and running. Movement around the map is tough because you can't hit cover and tap A easily. You have to tap A, and then straight into x.
