This is my favorite Monkees song.. Micky- ahhh :) so cute. lol. I saw him and he was busy so i was going to leave him be, but he stopped talking to the other person and grabbed my hand, then he smiled at me and was like "Hiiii~" I melted. XD Peter kissed my mom so I don't really think i can look at him the same way again. Full on tongue right in front of me.

@Gowansgroupie The Frodis Caper is my all-time fave Monkees episode, possibly the most bizarre 30 minutes of prime time TV in 1968. You can almost smell the weed burning in the background!

If I'm not mistaken, this song contains the first use of a Moog synth in a Top 40 record.

Yes you did. It's one of the very first uses of a synthesiser in a pop song. If not for a release by a lesser known band a little earlier, The Monkees use of the synthesiser on Star Collector and Daily Nightly on the Pisces Aquarius Capricorn & Jones Ltd. album would be its first appearance on a pop record.

@etrax2000 By the time they recorded this, they weren't being controlled musically. NO WAY would a Moog have been used if Don Kirschner, ScreenGems, and Jeff Barry were still in control. To hear the difference listen to Kirschner's versions of Valleri and She Hangs Out.

Actually Moog was first top 40ed by the Doors in Strange Days. Don't accuse the Monkees of anything original except Mike's Elephant Parts.
@cherylhulting13013 ай бұрын
I love the Doors, but the Monkees actually first used the Moog on their album "Pisces, Capricorn, Aquarius and Jones Ltd," which waa released in 1967, ahead of "Strange Days." Micky in fact introduced John Lennon to the instrument, which led to the Beatles incorporating it into some of their psychedelic-era material. Give credit where credit is due.

This song is in no way dirty. It is about a guy being chased by a girl who only likes him for his fame and fortune. If he stops being sucessful she will leave, so he has no respect for her and will not start a relationship with her. It was the Monkees' way of rejecting the superficial aspects of stardom. Cuddly Toy is a bit dirty, but I still love it!

Rockin around the automatic backing synthesiser until it got overheated & way out of tune & out of sync!, when I first watched this many years ago I thought the whole thing was gonna explode?, no it just simply fizzled out to nothing!, you actually hear it on the record?... classic!🎶

Or better informed? Mike was the one with the creative streak. Pete turned into a good musician. Mickey could sing and Dave had to be whipped into shape to play some percussion. They all developed chemistry. Originality, not so much.
@cherylhulting13013 ай бұрын
😂 Peter Tork was the band's best musician. He started formally studying music at age nine with playing piano. He went on to study music at Carleton College in Minnesota and played in the folk scenes in NYC and LA long before he joined the Monkees. He was already a very competent musician who played multiple instruments at the time of hire for the show. By the way, Micky Dolenz also played guitar and fronted two bands in LA before joining the show as well. Try not to brag about getting these things wrong.
@FoxTreatment13 жыл бұрын
@TheMonkeesRock It's about a boy seducing a girl and then dumping her afterwards. "You're not the only cuddely toy that was ever enjoyed by any boy." Haha, not exactly as innocent as it sounds. I don't like the anti-feminist attitude, but we have to remember that it was 1960s. Unfortunately, popular music today seems to have gotten a lot worse in that department.
@redspice555 жыл бұрын
And it was written by Harry Nilsson.
@cherylhulting13013 ай бұрын
I've never liked that song. It really lacks empathy and yeah, not exactly a feminist sentiment. They weren't able to "cute it up" for me by having Davy Jones sing it. 🙄
