I have had 32 layouts. Im never happy so end up changing it after a year or so! its always hard to know just how much detail to put in, always hesitant. Yours sounds like a good plan.

Loving the idea mate, I look forward to the building of the extension and seeing it all in full working order, with the flask area you could have a line coming off of the 2 track mainline as a branchline maybe to get to the loading point, wouldn't be too much of an issue I would see, then you can have it join the mainline/s in either direction

Daniel Stanbridge cheers bro. Looking forward to you coming to see it.

Up until now I hadn’t realised the space you had going spare in the loft for your layout so in a way am amazed you hadn’t utilised that area before. The fiddle yard in the untouched area is a sound idea giving you plenty of space for storage. Perhaps my only concern would be your positioning of crossover tracks to accommodate transitions from one line to the other - will they hinder running of the lines whilst these movements are made? I dunno, I’m no track guru but it’s just thoughts to throw at you. Secondly, your nuclear flask depot, that would seem more tricky. Do you like it a lot? Is it worth keeping and trying to shoehorn a line in to the mainline to accommodate what is a small scenic area of the layout? Finally, before you rip out that centre section, is there anyway to integrate it in to the new plan to add operational interest with the mainlines diverging off across the central area to give the impression of a junction with lines heading to another destination? Perhaps even a branchline joining the mainline with its own individual section in the fiddle yard for storing a few DMU’s. Like I say, all musings on my part and may not fit in anyway with what’s in your head but thought I’d throw them out there. Great update and exciting times ahead with the new developments both in the loft and with the better half. Good luck with them. Paul

Nice ideas. Look forward to this moving forward. If you wanted to go round the whole loft like you were suggesting could you not move the fiddle yard slightly more forward down towards the tmd area. Then you can keep the points going into it but then you could run the main lines through towards your desk infront of the fiddle yard. That way you'd minimize how much youre taking up and then you could put a board up infront of the fiddle yard as the backdrop to hide it from view of the scenic board. Just an idea, hopefully it helps with your ideas :)
@GowertonParkway6 жыл бұрын
Cherrham Junction Part of the reason I'm ripping it up is also because the woodwork on the fiddle yard is pretty bad . This gives me the chance to correct that also 😀

Looks good, one thought I had is that you might struggle to do the mainline as anything other than a straight line down the back of the board on the TMD side, even if you do curve it away it’s got to get back across towards the edge in time to go behind the desk. Have you thought about that?
@GowertonParkway6 жыл бұрын
roadsandrails Yea it should be fine , I don't anticipate that being an issue, the angle of the tracks should allow it .
@stretchedits6 жыл бұрын
Hi, first of your video's I've seen. The moment I saw your layout I thought, "why didn't he go all the way down the attic?" . I think you should take your time and not rush to rebuild your boards...............Get the boards nice and solid and flat first. I think you have some good ideas too, although like someone else commented, I think you might end up with straight main line tracks all the way from the TMD to the fiddle yard. Main lines are straight as much as possible anyway for high speed running. Your Nuclear Flask depot could stay as it is, but just relay the feed in so it curves the other way, from about the point the two flask wagons were parked in on the video............I will follow your rebuild as it progresses.................Hope the points help.
@GowertonParkway6 жыл бұрын
stretchedits Thanks for the comments . I think the only reason I didn't go all the way round was because I thought it was too much of a challenge. I'm a lot more confident now. The boards have been going up this week . They aren't elegant but they are rock solid and level :-)

Sounds like a really reasonable plan. Would you consider doing the scenic section as open plan as per Everard Junction or the Scrap Model Line ? Thanks and good luck with the baby :)
@GowertonParkway6 жыл бұрын
Trevor Hird Thanks Trevor . With the way the rest of the layout has been made , it's a little tricky to go open frame now . I don't have a solid track plan in place yet so that sort of holds me back !
@jonathandnicholson4 жыл бұрын
How come no-one ever makes their fiddle yard, part of the layout, say like a Bescot and Toton yards or a Longsight and Willesden carriage sidings? You've got the TMD where you can store the locos, HST power units and multiple units on the layout itself and then do the same with the carriages and wagons, using switch over points at the entrances and exits of the yards...
@GowertonParkway4 жыл бұрын
I think its all about giving the illusion of a journey , so the trains havbe somewhere to dissapear too. When I first had the layout there was no fiddle yard. That freight yard essentially was my scenic fiddle yard.
@jonathandnicholson4 жыл бұрын
@@GowertonParkway Ah, yeah, I get that now.. Anyway, I hope all is well with you.

When it's gotta go it's gotta go! I am trying to get my layout modifications going but real life has been getting in the way for the past few months. Sometimes a change is needed to keep the motivation up. Also if you have issues with the track plan you can use the change to resolve them as you are intending to do. Your plans look sound to me and it is obviously what you want to do so go for it. .............John

Why not , widen the Station to 4 Tracks, and come back to 2 Tracks other end of Station. that way you will get your stright run, more trains in station, and still do some scenic.!!

I can see exactly what you mean. its a great layout up to the point where your going to re build , and if you don't mind me saying you can get rid of the silly floating bridge to knowhere in the corner lol. hope you get it done , I will subscribe as I want to see how you get on . also do you know you sound like alan davies off QI lol cheers.

moebius Alan Davies. Thats a new one on me lol
@mobius80026 жыл бұрын
I have just heard alan davies on a re run of qi and he sounds just like you lol but you don't have that slight lisp . I have just re done my layout , its much smaller than yours and is 12 feet long by 12 inches its a end to end shunting type layout . trouble is its in a caravan . it took much swearing and farting about with 4 foot by 1 foot boards . the backscenes were a night mare .I run from late era steam right up to modern 2009/2012 so I have had to build and fit the buildings from scratch .2 and 3 versions of each so I can take them on and off to represent the different eras . talk about making a rod for your own back lol. your idea seems a good one and I am sure it will open up the room and give far better prototypical running .
