Our Mission
Founded in 1997 in Cedar City Utah, we are a 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to wildlife rescue and rehabilitation, wildlife and environmental education, and the development of the Cedar Canyon Nature Park.
Rescue, Rehabilitate and Release
The Southwest Wildlife Foundation of Utah (SWF) cares for more than 100 sick, injured and orphaned native wildlife annually. Restoring them to health and returning them to the wild is our primary goal, but for those that cannot be released due to disabilities, the Cedar Canyon Nature Park (CCNP) can provide them with a permanent home in a natural setting while enhancing our visitors educational experience at the park.
Informing, Educating and Inspiring
The SWF provides over 100 educational programs reaching over 30,000 people annually. We believe providing educational outreach programs to schools, scout groups and community events, with focus on children and families, will make the greatest impact in preserving our wildlife, the environment, our public lands and our resources for future generations to enjoy.
Martin Tyner
Since age twelve, with a bird on his arm, Martin has captivated audiences sharing his knowledge and experience of his wildlife friends.
At age nineteen, Martin was hired as curator of birds of prey at Busch Gardens, CA. He also worked in the movie and television industry training big cats, elephants, primates, sea mammals and raptors.
“One of my greatest childhood fantasies was the desire to create a personal friendship with a wild eagle. I found myself with a love and fascination for these powerful creatures.”
Martin Tyner is a federally licensed falconer, eagle falconer, wildlife rehabilitator, wildlife propagator, and wildlife and environmental educator.
He has been providing wildlife and environmental programs throughout the western United States, to schools, scouts and community groups for over fifty years.

I always love it when Martin grabs that Red Tailed Hawk without the glove! He already knew that the hawk was too weak to want to fight back! Great netting at 10:53! Martin knew exactly what direction he wanted that hawk to go! Everything went exactly as planned!

That was beautiful. Thank you so much for what you do, and for sharing it with us. I LOVE birds of prey. I was lucky enough to have a red tailed hawk on my arm when I was at a sanctuary in the UK, along with a kestrel, and a red-footed falcon. I'd been waiting for that moment since I was a child, I'm now in my seventies! I also watched a peregrine falcon chasing pigeons! He went hungry that time! Had to make do with a couple of chicks! Can't wait to go back there!

Your videos are wonderful. I am going to contact the Wild Bird Sanctuary, close to my home in Saint Louis, to donate $100. Saint louis is home to the confluence of the Missouri and Mississippi rivers. Many eagles and other Raptors are found here. Thank you for your life long vocation sir.

I just saved a hawk from a massive snake and just put up footage of the whole ordeal if you may be interested. Wondering if I did the right thing?

Great videos. Question... When he's feeding the hawk, what's up with it sitting there with it's mouth open? Is that a threat display or the hawk equivalent of panting or something else? Nevermind... The video answered the question.

I love watching you release them. I have several Falcons and a red tail where I live. I saw a little falcon the other day. I cannot remember what you call them. I was thrilled when I spotted him flying.

When I see hawks hunting, I always wonder what happens if they can't catch any food. I guess only the strong, good hunters survive. I have one question....If there were plenty of jack rabbits in the area where this hawk was found, then why was he starving? Is it because he is young and his hunting skills are not that good? Thanks!

It's hard to know exactly, all kinds of things can go wrong or off-track. It's not easy in the wild and a drop in physical condition quickly takes a toll.

@@GowildlifeOrg That makes sense. I guess there can be any number of contributing factors that could cause a decline in health, not just one. Thank-you!

An "able bodied" hawk can catch enough food almost effortlessly. The inexperienced ones do get bullied and pirated relentlessly by other raptors in areas where they are common. It is a merciless contest out there!

@@stingraybeach9710 Thank you for sharing. This is so interesting. Sometimes I'll look up and see quite a few circling in the same area. I guess they're not all friends!!

Thank you for loving and helping nature. Beautiful birds, thanks from all of nature. What is and how can people make the lice spray? Can that be used to kill fleas on dogs? Can anyone use it on animals?God Bless All, Peace & ♡Love♡ All
