Heya! I just wanted to note that I didn't do any mastering of this video because it would affect the end result. The consequences of that is that this video is very quiet at the beginning until we set up the Compressor. Please keep that in mind and adjust your volume accordingly!

Just got the RE20 to pair with my Mini GoXlr because I didn't really like how muddy my voice sounded with the SM7B, and this video helped me match my audio to almost exactly how I wanted it! Thank you so much!

how do you hear yourself while setting this up?
@KickedTripodYT3 жыл бұрын
Your headphones need to be plugged into the GoXLR headphone output, "Mic" needs to be checked in the "Headphones" row of the routing table, and your Headphones and Monitoring volume in the Mixer tab need to be set to 100%.

Thanks for the tutorial, I at least learnt what the sliders should be doing in the EQ even if I can't set them myself. That's not a software problem but a me problem. I have really poor hearing, going deaf + tinnitus. So I couldn't hear any differences in your voice nor any of the background sounds. I at least have my microphone set up through the GoXLR Mini and assigned to a fader with an EQ visual effect on it, so I could see the bars drop to nothing in an attempt to eliminate the background sounds around me.

I have my threshold at pretty high because i can hear my keyboard clicking and that helicopter banging sound. But my mic keeps cutting my voice out because my voice isnt breaking through the threshold. Is there a way to gate out the keyboard but still keep my voice? Using a dynamic mic too but i dont know why its picking up my keyboard so harshly
@KickedTripodYT3 жыл бұрын
This is where the realities of physics make this difficult. A gate can only determine if a noise is above or below a threshold, so if your keyboard is close in volume level to your voice, you're going to to run into the exact issue you're describing. Here are the solutions: 1. Make sure the microphone is as close to your mouth as possible. By doing this you reduce your mic gain and mic sensitivity which makes the keyboard noises the mic picks up significantly quieter. 2. Use a different keyboard. This may not be at all practical, but Cherry Blues are just the enemy of good audio. 3. Lower your mic gain. It's probably better to be a little quieter than it is to be cutting off your voice and picking up a bunch of keyboard clicks. As long as your voice is in the Yellow in OBS, you should be fine.

what should you do if your room isn't treated? like what are the best settings to get rid of fan noises and stuff from the computer and such
@KickedTripodYT3 жыл бұрын
Sorry for the late response. Lower your gain as much as possible and get talk into the microphone as much as possible. Use make-up gain in OBS or on your GoXLR Mini if you have to. It's tough, but it's doable.

Is this digital or analog compression/limiting? I ask, because digital one could still introduce random clipping
@KickedTripodYT4 жыл бұрын
Not quite as simple as that. GoXLR uses a pretty sophisticated signal chain with processing and analyzing often happening at different points. To simplify it, though - GoXLR has an analog limiter and a DSP limiter. It has analog preamps with digital gain stages. It goes > Analog gain > analog limiter > digital gain pt. 1 > mic chain as pictured in the GoXLR app. Effectively, the only way to clip using this method is to overdrive your microphone gain by somewhere to the tune of +20dB.

Can someone help me? I have it set to 61db gain, and barely reaching the good. And yes, it's like 1 inch away from my mouth.

Great video man, I really learned a lot, especially with the gate. I get my Shure sm7b today and the GoXLR next week so I’m preparing now so that I know what to do when everything is in action. But I’ve been using a gate wrong the whole time... I never knew what the release did and I always set it to 0ms and it would cut out my voice, wish I knew that a couple months ago 😂 but anyways thank you for making this video and one quick question, what does the attenuation setting do?

Im still never hitting the good unless im straight up mouthing the mic... Any suggestions
@KickedTripodYT3 жыл бұрын
Make sure your Mic slider is up to 100%. Most mics sound best when they are within 1-2 inches of your mouth. If after raising the gain you're still low, you can post your settings in my Discord (linked in the description) and we can take a look if there's a simple setting being missed or if there's a hardware issue.

Hi There! Really usefull video! I was wondering if you could give me some advice on how to setup my Go XLR. Lately I have a bit of echo in my recording. I didn't really have this before I used the GO XLR. Are there any setting that could make this worse? If you have time, could you check out some of my videos and give me some advice on how to get the audio a bit better? Thanks in advance!!!!
