In this talk, Goya specialist Dr Francisco J.R. Chaparro considers Goya's continuing resonance with contemporary viewers and tells us why many see Goya's Disasters of War series as the most powerful antiwar manifesto ever created. He discusses several prints from the series, highlighting Goya's prefiguring of photojournalism and the significant contribution the artist made to humanitarian issues and the debate on Human Rights in the decades following the French Revolution.
