Even if one doesn't gain "world championship" points in these off-brand races, it's instructive to remember that they're called "Grand Prix" ("big prize") for a reason. Purses could be generous in order to attract world-class, world-famous teams and drivers.

Living in East London it is great to see the GL Legends 1966 South African Grand Prix! The circuit is still in its original layout and one of the quickest circuits in South Africa. I have marshalled at Potters Pass some years ago and have seen huge accidents as the corner is so quick and tricky even if the car has good downforce. I have heard different stories as to how Spence won. One version is that he was keeping up with Jack and the Brabham broke down. The other version is that Jack was miles ahead and broke down...

Yes I got to know the circuit not too long ago watching a South African Trans-Am like race which got me more interested in the circuit and the history of the SA racing scene. Surfing the net about it I came across the SA touring car series and how it was in the late 80s/early 90s when it really was GTO/special saloon car racing instead of usual touring cars - really awesome! Both, current Trans-Am and those 80s/90s GTOs, were taking Potters Pass at about 300 kph! Very impressive visually, especially the GTOs. A great circut East London is.

@@armorgeddon the speeds through Potters Pass and Rifle on the way to heavy braking at Cocobana are phenomenal! I was lucky to marshal on the inside (entry)of Potters Pass in the early 90's. With the V8 modifieds (American type TransAms / GTO's) the ground vibrated as they flew through the corner. The fastest crash was I think Ben Morgenrood in 1994, at Rifle. He was driving a special Mazda MX6 (made in the USA) powered by the quad rotary (Le Mans winning) Mazda motor. He was doing +- 330 through Rifle. Car was rebuilt overnight and he won the next day!

@@andreschrier9104 That's some serious speed! And I remember that Mazda from the races I watched when I educated myself about the SA touring car series. It looked very good and sounded glorious.

I have actually raced there earlier this year, track is really close to how it is today! My Porsche isn’t the fastest, but got up to 160-180 kph in a few spots, and can take most corners flat, this track is really a test of how big your balls are and not lifting that right foot.

I found out about the game while internet surfing back in about 2002/3 and never looked back. There's some fantastic mods and add ons for the game along with a vibrant game and racing community. Where you can get help and assistance to run and install the game. You can get Isos of the game but I'd advise trying to get the original big box if possible. I have one which is like new with an instruction manual and booklet the size of a Bible. Enjoy 👍

The 11.57-mile Prince George Circuit used for the South African GP in 1936-39 used the pit straight, before heading off inland at Potter's Pass. The 15.2-mile, original circuit in 1934 used the entire front stretch side of this circuit.

Great game that will either hook you or make you possibly shout out in frustration. It's not easy to drive and better with a wheel. But once you get it right you'll be in classic racing heaven. Just a wonderful nostalgic experience. Knowing that your seeing through the same eyes as those 60's drivers on the tracks that they actually raced. In other words priceless 👍

East London is such a simple, yet difficult track. Flat with no camber change whatsoever, a few sweeping turns and hairpins... you get so used to elevation and camber changes that a flat track becomes a lot more tricky to handle, especially when pushing. Well, at least it's much harder to spin out than at the Glen's loop...
@andreschrier9104
@andreschrier9104 3 жыл бұрын
In real life the track has elevation changes. Cocobana is much lower than Beacon Bend. You go up an gentle incline, from the Sweep to Beacon Bend. The track also drops at the exit of Potters Pass making it a very difficult corner (already fully flat or almost flat in real life) as you pick up even more speed on exit.

It's a bit like driving a McLaren in modern F1. Best of the rest is a good thing to be. Curious how near to Jack's lap you got on race pace, as he was much slower in the race than Quali. East London was always a tricky track for me. So few corners you're tempted to overdrive all the time whereas smooth is all that is required for fast laps. For anyone more interested in the Brabham in particular : kzbin.info/www/bejne/jn_JomZnZc6Ciqs

Just tap Abandonware games in your internet search and search there for the game. Your better though getting the game from places like eBay & Amazon. if you can? You can get the budget disc version in a standard dvd case, I think it was the 'Sold Out' games version. Or look for the original big box with the Bible size manual and extra booklets. But these are hard to get because they are collectable. Example here of a game store (in UK) where you can get it still. uk.webuy.com/product-detail?id=3348542045118&categoryName=pc-games&superCatName=gaming&title=grand-prix-legends They sell online but not sure if they send items outside UK?

I'm going to look into the 60fps in next few weeks. I run against ai mainly using 36fps but would like to go 60fps through gem console for GPL . Apparently the ai get weird when you go 60fps. But I'm going to rebuild all my GPL with this. Scroll down for 60fps info. www.gplworld.de/en/grand-prix-legends/gpl-easy-installation-guide Which as info on the different 60fps patches and which patch goes with each mod. Not sure it will cure the weird ai with 60fps but worth a try & experiment I think.
