This seems like it, I think it is some form of synthetic data from gpt-4. Similar to the small llama models which rely on high quality data to be really good. If this was the case the location would be spot on rather than incorrect by a some varying amount. Unless some amount of inaccuracy was deliberately introduced to increase perceived levels inference. I don't trust anyone who just talks about their products. Right now, we are facing a crucial moment in the industry. Some expert voices are raising concerns about the possibility of AI reaching a ceiling, and the very similar capabilities of every modern model seem to support this hypothesis. GPT-5 is about two orders of magnitude larger than GPT-4 in terms of data and GPUs. The hype driving this insanely expensive journey demands results that blow our minds. Sam Altman is hinting at granular deployments and similar concepts, claiming that he doesn't want to shock everyone. And I wonder: does OpenAI not want to shock everyone, or CAN it not shock us? We'll find out soon. But if GPT-5 is barely superior to GPT-4, that could collapse all multibillion-dollar investments. Who would invest 100 billion in a model that is only slightly better than a model that costs 1000 times less?

The other day my GPT4 started doing much shorter concise answers and then went back to verbose chatter bot. I've noticed many changes so that to me suggests that they don't really have a significant leap or they would just let GPT4 be and focus on the next. One can also remark that the transformer has been the basis for everything, even Sora seems to use it in the image generation, not just the bridge to natural language. If that premise still holds then the next system wont be a quantum leap. And might not even be a bigger model. Might even be a little smaller. GPT3.5 is smaller than 3 yet significantly better iirc. I hunch that vastly superior intelligence is possible within 1.7T params.

You could create a model to find the location of photos by using a combination of Googles street view, nasa has a high resolution topographical map of the earth, aerial photographs, and Facebook would have a huge number of photographs that have exif location info. Finally even if the photograph had the location info removed, using a combination of the date and time of the photo and shadows, you would be able to narrow down where the photo was located.

We've got to keep in mind that these larger companies (including Meta) are the only ones capable of reaching the next level of AI without significant changes to physical or digital architecture. We're making decent progress, but the development isn't fast enough to ever catch the big fishes. By the time open-source is able to catch up, the big companies will have moved on to the next paradigm. They're thinking several moves ahead because they have to. We'll have what many will call AGI within a year, definite AGI within 2 years, and will be relatively ubiquitous within 3-5 years (just in time for the wave of AI robotics).

@@HakaiKaien That's o.ly a small part of "it," not the entirety of "it." Ya know, since we're using vague terms of reference now. When an AI reaches a critical point, it will be capable of deducing everything about you from real-time context, so the real question is, "Who do I trust with this power?" If the answer is anything short of "God almighty" or "No one," you're a fool. We need to focus on keeping as much technology in the hands of the masses as possible for as long as possible.

Assuming that it isn't just using metadata (which I suspect that it is), It is probably in large part it is guessing based on plant texture and character (or maybe even species ID in some cases) and architecture for areas that are not clearly visible on google earth. Not surprising it can guess a back yard within 500km if you know local flora and architecture. I would bet I could judge just about any location in the lower 48 to within 500km just off of local flora and the landscaping plants used.

This sort of internal/external visibility will remain, and will become worse. What I mean is the external release will always be less-than, up to the point that if AGI is ever achieved, it wont hit the public release. Not for long after it has been used to tip the scale to the discoverers. I'm not even saying this is wrong per se, but it is going to be far different than how the altruists believe. We are not going to advance into an AGI world together, holding hands and singing. And while gov pretends the first right of inspection is for safety, it's really for capture and kill. Just like the patent system captures and kills tech for national security interests. But even if it does make it to the public, the hardware to run it will be very expensive and power-hungry, and far beyond the reach of most. Which means that the gatekeepers will always have the option of closing the gate, or crippling whatever they let out of the gate.

My AGI feed NPC's in all my games are my friends. They have trained on ALL my internet history, and regurgitate my interactions with them that are positive to make me rainbow, calm, docile, pleased, rewarded, satiated. I like naps, slippers, and goggles.

First thing I would love to automate is a saltwater treatment plant and a food supply chain to help hungry children, and families. It runs indefinitely for hundreds of years without me around, first time in history that this could actually be feasible

Wes, repeat: check Rus of MIT CSail. I think we just passed an inflection point, even if her approach is slightly off, she's found the genie in the bag. If we think that SA or EM or MZ are going "hmm... that's interesting, we've fallen into an unused well. Robotics first, but also AGI before Labor Day 2024. Guaranteed - unless she's simply playing us. No Chris Andersen on stage, but I think he's missed the significance here.

If the next-gen ones (GPT-5 , Gemini 2.0 etc) can show that they are 'OK' at least, with a clear and significant improvement on current (rather awful) LLMs, that may finally put to rest the neural net skeptics. I bet that they will.

Some tards still think the earth is flat, the skeptics are skeptic not because it's logical, but rather because their ego is too fragile to consider the possibility that machine intelligence will soon surpass human intelligence. They will always find loops and excuses to deny A.I even when A.I is dominating. I say don't bother with the skeptics they are a lost cause

I see no need for a new piece of hardware for AI. All you need is an app for your phone, that can connect with your smart watch (if that's a thing you enjoy) that has a companion component for your laptop/desktop. Add integration into most emails and cloud storage, and you can just have a distributed tool that works on hardware we're all already familiar with. I have no clue why all of these AI companies want to make these small, simple devices. As cools as it may seem, at the end of the day, people would rather tack on the functionality to their already capable phone/PC. Why would we want a third device to carry around and, potentially, lose our have stolen?

We are talking about, and being lured into AI with the idea of increased productivity, but no one seems to sealize that our current economic system is already going off the rails in many ways, and AI will be the last push. If everyone can much more with AI, while we are already over the top, this can only end in disaster. First of all, we won’t be needing that much from each other if we can do it ourselves with AI, so business will go down. To compensate for that, people will invent and market new business that nobody actually needs, like we have been doing for a quite a while now. I can think of a dozen other ways this will negatively affect this (already unhealthy) economy and society, but to be lured into this fanrasy because of ‘productivity’ is just a sign that you haven’t actually thought it through.
