2:40 not entirely true. There the MR option on the Sony ZV-1 menu where you can save pre-settings for both video and photo and switch between the modes so you have your camera ready for video or photo with your own custom settings. It is great, for instance I have 4 pre-settings, 2 for video, 2 for pictures, Mode 1 for video I have is 4K 24, Mode 2 video is for 1080 120FPS for video in slow motion, mode 3 pictures in raw and flat profile for post and mode 4 is JPEG for pictures in black and white.

Yes, (almost) every camera has these custom memory settings and many people use them as a workaround. However, it's not quite the same as separate settings for both photo and video.

I just got the Sony ZV-1 used and intend to use it as a photography camera only. The Ricoh GR3/3x is amazing indeed, but it comes at quite the cost. Secondhand they still go for €7-800 (and more). The ZV-1 is much less expensive in the secondary market today. Many young aspiring vloggers bought this camera when it came out, since vlogging was all the hype. But today they're not using it anymore. I bought mine for €330 in almost new condition, with the vlogging grip that I sold off for €30. So incredible value!

You forgot a detail about the zv-1... although it was implicit when you said the guts are RX100V, it was worth mentioning the sensor is stacked (as fast read speed as Sony A9), so you can shoot silent without rolling shutter. I like doing street photography in silent mode, and my A7IV sensor is too slow for that.

I'm a person who very used to shoot with APSC Camera, started from Sony a5000 and now Fujifilm X-A7 as my main still camera, i own a Sony ZV1 as my video camera, and since the size is very pocketable i took it for some travel photography. The thing is i travel with a toddler so i need to travel lightweight, and the size of ZV1 is just nice, however at the beginning i was struggling to get a good image going with full Manual mode or even Aperture Priority mode. Being frustrated unable to get good quality image, i switch to Intelligent Auto mode and BOOM! The image suddenly become good, i shoot the remaining of my travel with ZV1 in Intelligent Auto mode

I, too shoot with apsc cameras , also have a Fuji xa7 and a few lenses, had a Sony a5100, but have just purchased a Sony zv1 second hand, hasn't arrived yet but my thoughts were, bit sick of carrying my Fuji kit with all the lenses etc and the hassle of changing lenses so bought the zv1 to see if I could deal with that type of camera on an everyday basis, travel a lot and getting a kit to travel with is just too heavy and cumbersome and hopefully the zv1 will work out, I was in Japan 1 month ago and had my Samsung nx2000 and only a 18-55 lens and didn't miss the full kit I had at home...
@FelixKusuma18 күн бұрын
@nix123ism i just finished my holidays in Johor Bahru and Singapore and i only bring the ZV1, here's my take on this compact camera: 1. Very lightweight, easy to carry and quite versatile focal length for travel 2. Small camera means small battery, bring your spare batteries 3. Image quality is ok, definitely not as sharp & details with nice bokeh like APSC camera but still usable social media 4. Sony color is not as nice as Fuji, post processing is needed So for the verdict, it's a nice camera for travel if you're not pixel peeping person
@nix123ism17 күн бұрын
@@FelixKusuma yes, there are always going to be compromises with going compact rather than apsc, my Fuji takes great photos and I have a 10-24 and a 12mm prime and like that focal length but of course a compact won't have that but the zv1 I bought has a lens attachment that will give me 18mm so am hoping it will be my all round camera package in a small but still capable package. My last trip I didn't even take a camera because I restricted myself to carry on luggage only and used a pixel 3 phone for my photographs, took some pretty good shots apart from low light conditions, night shots.

How much better are the photos in the GR iii vs the ZV-1?
@geogu3images2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for another functional review that we can use. Years ago I tried the RX100iii but it didn’t work out, which would sadly be my response to the ZV-1. My Street go-to has been the GR3x for mostly monochrome (stills and short video) and my iPhone for color video. For compact carry cameras, I see an increasing gap for enthusiasts, one that could be filled by an upgraded LUMIX LX100ii, or another ultra compact APS-C sensor camera from Leica or Panasonic. Or just maybe, for photographers, a compact Foveon camera from Sigma?
@geogu3images2 жыл бұрын
Oh, and yes I know that Leica is out of the APS-C market and Panasonic is focused on M43 or FF.. But if Ricoh isn’t showing both of those companies the market desire for small, portable APS-C cameras with awesome small lenses, then they will miss the boat on enthusiast cameras that function like camera phones, but act like proper ‘Cameras’ and produce better images. I may be dreaming!

Awesome and well thought out video my friend. Totally agree with everything you said. If I may add, I was shocked how good the high ISO photos turned out of my RX100 VA after de-noising them using DXO. So yeah 6400 and beyond are possible if one is willing to shoot raw. Also as you said it’s not behind the micro 4/3 by far. In fact I’m disappointed Panasonic hasn’t released a new LX100. Now the Ricoh GR III is a beast for photography. Love it! Please Ricoh don’t change the design and don’t add a view finder 🤞🏻

I absolutely love that difference take on the comparison... That's fascinating... And i think most people who are looking at those 2 cameras would want to know.. I'm just getting back into photography. I'm 60 years old and I would mainly use a camera 90% of the time shooting photos.. I've narrowed my 3 choices down to the Ricoh gr3x 40mm lens and the leica D'lux 7 and would be open to a best used leica in the ($500-1,200) range.. I'm really confused with getting a easy holding camera that mainly used for photos as a hobby and want to stay under that ($1,200) area.. Any thoughts.... Thank you in advance for any wisdom... Great comparisson Matti. I'm just curious, can you do hyperfocal distance shooting using the ZV-1? For example, manually focusing on a certain distance, and shoot photos based on that focus setting. And if you turn off the camera, the focal length, aperture and the focusing distance can be save in memory, so that once you turn on, there's a way to use the settings again. Just a work around similar to the GR's snap focus feature.
@mattisulanto2 жыл бұрын

Lack of 4K is no big thing, even on a high-end Lumix built for the job. A lot of pro movie is shot at 1080, edited and upscaled, because it is easier and faster that way. If you are posting on FB or YT, they will compress the snot out of 4K, limit the download speed, and most viewers will watch on a mobile phone. And e.g. I am not watching on the UHD monitor but the HD one. And if I shuffle the video across (done), it is still in the usual box not full screen. (yeah it looks good). Do the YT demographics show the formats downloaded, can't remember ... I've taken to shooting video on the G9 and GH4 (and others) at 1080p because I'm not trying to fill a cinema screen and any bigger is a waste of effort. There is a place for glorious C4K but let's face it talking head vlog is a face in a box in a window.
