In this video I am troubleshooting my Brother BB370 for free motion quilting on my new Grace Mini Quilting Frame. As it turns out, I had to make another executive decision.
The pattern of my table runner in this video is from Breda over at Conquering Mt. Scrapmore with Brenda. Find it here:

Thanks for finding me. Yes. I was having the same feeling. I understand their marketing but I wanted to know how a newbie like myself would do with this frame. I worked out a few growing pains. I will be sharing more as I have more input, both troubleshooting and successes. Please keep me posted on your progress. I would love your feedback and questions. I am not an expert but if I have answers I will be sure to share. Thank you again. Much appreciate. Be well. Enjoy the ride!!!

Thanks Teri! A+ for perseverance! It's wonderful that you are sharing your "growing pains" with us. I have never used a long arm machine and never free motion quilted. I have been watching you grow in this process. I am very happy I found your videos! I see much progress in your efforts and hope I can do as well as you have so far. (I only have 1 machine to use, so fingers crossed that my Janome Skyline S7 will be sufficient to the task)

Hi. Thanks for your feedback. are you planning on getting a frame or did you get one? Or are you going to venture out on FMQ on your Janome? If you look at your manual, you should be able to find out how to adjust your machine to do free motion quilting. Also, take notice of the needle size that they suggest. Mine uses a 100/16. It doesn't bend as easily so less needle breakage. Give it a go and please keep me posted. I hope you have success. Be well. Thanks for watching.

Perseverance is key - You can see a good improvement in the stitches with the Singer - My partner got me one of these frames for Christmas - I haven't used it yet - But it looks a lot less daunting after seeing your progress. Keep at it. 👍

Hiiii! Looks fun! Experimentation is terrifying but also half the fun! You’ll look back on this fondly when you become more expert, and remember the learning curve when you’re teaching the rest of us! 🤗🤗🤗 I felt like that with my industrial, Especially how terrifying the speed was at first… and yet now I sew without the needle cage on 😂
@sewterie

Yes. Thanks so much for sharing. New things can easily intimidate some people but if you don't try it you will never do anything new. I can imagine using an industrial. I do not have one but I have these old Singers and the motors are pretty powerful. The first time i used one I was intimidated. Now it is my favorite machine. This 201 I built myself from parts. I didn't want to put it on the frame because I want to use it elsewhere but none of this is permanent, right? I hope to get better at my designs now. I know I can. I know I can. Thanks again. Be well and safe and enjoy.

@ thank you! I received news this morning after spending quite a while on the phone coordinating benefits, my procedure is scheduled for Monday morning at 9am. That was the first available appointment. Sadly, I will have to miss my husband’s uncle’s funeral which is scheduled for the same time. My son is going to get me to and from the appointment. My husband’s uncle is my father’s BFF and we met at his daughter’s wedding. I’ve known him all my life and would love to be there to pay my respects but I know he’d understand. He was like a second father to me. Keep plugging away! You will have it mastered in no time!❤️

Thanks for the progress. Yes Glide thread is a really good choice I’ve had my best FMQ with it as well using the push through method, but the singer is also a rugged slightly faster machine. On the other sewing machine (brother) the start wasn’t a smooth slow increase and that could also have contributed to the snarling underneath. Or perhaps there was a thread underneath you didn’t know was there. Stay with the singer as you learn plus the grace company recommends a drop bobbin probably less frustration! I’ve ordered this frame it’s coming later this week. I intend to use an old sheet upper and lower with batting so there is no seems to work against initially-I think that is about 30” by 30” plus what 5” leader to roll up? Maybe some of these while you’re getting the hang of it! Stitches are looking smoother! 😉💙💕

@sewterie Ай бұрын
So true. The Brother wasn't working for me since I don't se it often. The GLIDE is awesome. My leaders are all different sizes. The most I needed were the 9 inch ones and the small ones on the side. KMP on your progress with it. Thanks so much for watching and commenting. I appreciate your input.

You’re doing great, you may want to use a machine that is not a top loading bobbin and you need a longer throat space. Also get a scratch paper and use a pencil and doodle. That way you build muscle memory and can test a design you like and relax.
@sewterie
@sewterie Ай бұрын
Yes Judy. I just don't want to buy another machine. lol. This vintage machine seems to be working. It is giving me more confidence. The Grace Company included some designs on paper to practice on. Now that the linguistics of the mechanics are worked out, I can hopefully concentrate on developing skills. Thanks so much for watching. Be well and safe and enjoy.

This was so helpful! I am also trying to use my Singer 201 on the cutie frame, but unsure how to secure the 201 to the carriage. Can you share a picture or video of how you did this?
@sewterie
@sewterie 24 күн бұрын
I can do that. Mine is only braced on the back sides. I had a little trouble with the feet of my machine falling into the space for the clamp, but I repositioned it until I got it right. If you have a base for your machine that will fit between the clamps I would try that. Next time I lift my machine I will try it in the base. I don't have much wiggle room but I would like to try. The machine is already 28 pounds. Please keep me posted on your progress. Would love to hear it. Be well, safe and enjoy.

I have a vintage Singer and a Vintage Pfaff. My Pfaff cooperates and my Singer does not. You'll dial in which machine. My Singer is a 301a. My grandson FMQs like mad on his Singer 500.

That is good to know. My vintage Singers did much better than the modern Brother. Plus the throat space is larger. My granddaughter would run my 15-91 like a race car when she was younger. She also was doing FMQ but has now lost interest. At least she learned the skill. Thanks for sharing your experience. Be well and safe. Enjoy.
