For sure, I hate how they aren't as well known as they deserve. Truly one of the best bands in the last 20 years. If you want to learn by ear, train your ear. Start small, tuning by ear, then slowly work it from there. Learn simple songs by ear and spend an hour-two hours doing it every day/two days. It will help develop your listening and in the long run your playing.
