I believe that Grace has a special gift that's not like others who write song that are basically pop, hip-hop, rap, other with out any kind of real meaning, Grace sends you on a journey through time and space and in a song that no one in the music industry can even come close to matching, because it is so true every word that Grace writes makes you realize your own existence in real time, please some one explain how 13 yr old Adolescent can explain the meaning of our humanity better In a song than my professor of humanities can't come close to at 60, my God what mind this child has and now the teen of 18 yrs has more knowledge than most adults when it comes to who we are, she literally saved a lot of souls who had darkness in their life, and explains what love really is without using the word love, can explain what beauty lies in the world of a flowers and so much more, come folks, this is not a normal human child that writes these unbelievable lyrics, like the reactors said Wow and she just doesn't know what a genius lyricist she is, I rest my case!! Thanks Grant for this compilation of head scratchers!!! This was great, thanks Grant, you know how to please the mind!

PS. Mary's doing quite well these past few days, bless you and yours for all you do, you are a friend for life, maybe we will meet at a Grace Vanderwaal concert soon for Letters Vol.2, by the way, the The HSG trailers are coming out on May 3rd. 6-8 years later and I still can't put my finger on why I tear up whenever I hear Grace's vocals at 12 to 14. After that, 15 and on I'm just in awe at the beautiful tones of her voice.

Anyone who has followed Grace since the beginning knows her friendships, adoration of her sister, love of her Mother respect for her Dad could put together a basic psychological profile of Grace and understand that once she sat down with writers for the JTB album her songs weren't what normal kids have on their minds, typical friends bickering, jealousies, problems with the parents, boys. Grace has developed into a deep thinker who unlike millions of other who are like that can put it down on paper and into her songs. A rare gift. Normal reactors think that they are dealing with a pop kid and totally miss what she is doing. If this was the 60s reactors would do their one or two Dylan reactions and then get right back to their Archie's and The Jackson 5 videos. Is that what a minute and a half of black screen means? Only a few have taken the time to really look at what she's doing. They get it. There are a few really good musicians who react and they won't touch Grace because to them without even looking Grace is just another one of those Pop girls. kzbin.info/www/bejne/jKvUfWVpl5eljqs We've had a few good reactors in the past who have bowed out for personal reasons and it's a shame whatever happened to them and I hope for their well being, they loved Grace and were dedicated to keeping up to Grace. Do we need to keep harping at the reactors who pit Grace and AJ against each other, some seem to think so.

I agree with all your sentiments, and statements of fact, LOL however the blank screen at the end of the video was a processing error with KZbin and the completed product. 🎼 Lungs “everyone discusses my art as if they understand, as if it were necessary to understand, when it is simply necessary to love...” claude monet _”lungs_ is grace’s curve ball in her song catalog. whereas the majority of her self-penned songs are themed, or tell a story with a goal in mind, _lungs_ seem to be more of an impressionistic abstract painting, more concerned with firing your own imagination to try and make sense of the riot of imagery being thrown at you.” that’s a pretty good general description of _lungs,_ courtesy of mark lalonde. for some, _lungs_ is a meditation on the nature of being, a meditation which leads us into the ever present present- into a state of consciousness which allows us to observe beauty in the unobserved. the world that grace describes in _lungs_ is not a physical place but a metaphor for this state of being. but instead of observing beauty, we run around doing “stuff” in a futile attempt to stay young, little knowing that trying to be young is what is making us grow old. grace was thirteen when she wrote _lungs._ the amazing grace vanderwaal

Well said Bobby, I agree completely but I did like the cut slider in the song So much more than this this, came along a little later with some of the same ideals of noticing the simple beauties in life, and how fleeting life is. Bobby 357, that was a beautifully expressed and it is very well said, simply put, Grace's lyrical genius gives us who want more in this life a picture of what's in our mind that could be, "Dancing flames into this glass castle and under ground wax world, rushing water at the park takes you to a different world", how is this not genius, I hope the industry wakes up to see what they have with Grace, she is like no other artist on this planet! Grace is a Monet in music, Grace is a Rembrandt of the art in musical compositions!

Wonderful, Grant. Simply wonderful! This is still my favorite early Grace VanderWaal song, with “A Better Life” being a very close second. It’s truly remarkable that a young poet stares at a candle and then comes up with the phrase “dancing flames in its glass castle,” and then proceeds to make a sublime statement on the nature of youth and age and the necessity of having a free soul - “letting go.” And then to top it off with sublime music, perfect music, and an emotional voice that has never been equaled. I still remain gobsmacked by her and her music. Thanks again, my friend! 😉

Thanks a lot for this compliation ! Remembering the day when I heard "Lungs" for the first time ... a sleepless night ... the aphorisms, speech melody, composition and music - that's something you can't learn, but only dream. To be modest and wise and skilled at that level at the age of 13 is truely unique. BTW ... we had out first choir rehersial after quite a long time this week, singing "My favorite things" in a new SATB version with nice halftones ... and I had to think about Grace, how she would reveal the hidden beauty of this song.

Grace says it all in her comments at the end. When she started her creation, in what a simple idea and then it becameLung at some point, with all the dimensions covered. It’s not the first time that Grace explain how a song came to her and it’s different each time. Most artists will start with the music and write the words or vice versa. Grace a lot of time will start with the complete painting and will create the lyrics and the melody from the images she sees. That’s why she is so prolific and can adapt a single song in so different ways, depending of her mood, or where she’s at. Great review again Grant. Thanks for your great work.
