7 hours after marrying his sweetheart Grace Gilford, Joseph (Seosamh in Irish) Plunkett was executed at dawn at Kilmainham Gaol by firing squad. No friends or family of the couple were present at the prison chapel; the 2 witnesses were armed British guards. Joseph loved his countrymen enough to fight and die for them at the Easter Rising in April 1916. But in his last hours, he was, though imprisoned, free to simply be a newly married man in love with his Grace. Rest in Power, Joseph. Ireland is free. Thank you.
