Beginnings publishing (just looked it up again - now called eternity science) has a 2 year (upper middle to early high) program called The Rainbow, and a high school chemistry called The Spectrum and I've found that their lab kits to be quite extensive, including things like flash cards, little bottles of all the misc stuff like dish soap, soil, whatever really.

Yes! I love that they have the ability to work through school, at their own pace and with many breaks if needed, when they are mildly or moderately sick. The other time that is similar is during snow days. I have my kids work through snow days, (unless their public schooled neighbors are outside wanting to play) then we take off those really warm and sunny spring days….I call those days our “Sun days!” 😂 It just makes me so happy having the kids getting sunshine after being cooped up all winter. Trading snow days for sun days is worth it to me!

I, myself, am not feeling well but not bad enough to skip school. It’s so nice to explain to my kids that I don’t feel great and they need patience. I have instrumental hymns playing to help make the atmosphere calm. It’s been so nice to take breaks we needed and to see my kids step up because they know how our day flows. I don’t have to tell them the next things to pull out- they’ve done it themselves.

I appreciate you talking about the turbulence. My kiddos have ADHD and autism and their emotional regulation is something that is very challenging for me to navigate through. My understanding of what they might need in the moment and ability to shift gears has gotten easier for me than when we first started homeschooling but just like for everything, some days are better than others. I will also say my ability to let go and release my plans to Him has given me so much sanity back, and calm.

The ACT is still pencil and paper and I always thought made so much more sense as far as content (I took both in high school). Four of my six kids have taken the ACT for similar reasons you mentioned (scholarship).

I could tell right away from your first portion of the video that you looked sad and I felt so bad but noticed you still persevered to work/ do the video. That’s very inspiring. Glad the rest of the week was better!!

Apologia has complete lab kits through Nature's Plus Workshop. They also are individually packaged and labeled for each lesson. It's really nice. I also purchaed the Logos kit for my oldest and I'm peeved it doesn't include everything.

My daughter and I actually laughed at this ...just the irony...she was sick all weekend also and we had the same situation with me having the same ideas for homeschool and colds, etc and rules for being sick. I also let her sleep in no matter what because that always heals the body quicker. I said exactly the same thing to her and she said "does she know you?" She also said she wished her siblings still also lived at home so that when she is sick they could split her chores haha! Hope everyone feels better soon!

Have you considered Apologia for Science? You probably have but in case you have not......We have used it for General Science and Physical Science. I have not used their biology or chemisty. It is also expensive unfortunately but you would only need to buy the notebook and lab kit again I think for subsequent children in the program. I use the Lab kits also. I like how they can read and take notes ...it really prepares them for college. My daughter does it completely on her own and has even checked her own work when needed. There are not videos unless you take it as a live class...those are available also ....but they do have videos of the experiments and so if there are any items we just don't have or they are not in the kit and they are too expensive to buy we just watch the lab video....and she still does the lab report. We do most of the labs probably 95 percent but this helps with the incomplete lab kits for us. Getting used to the program takes a couple of weeks but now she just soars through them. It takes her about 30-45 minutes. They have auto grading also and an audiobook. There are usually about 140 lessons so that nice also. It's very thorough and read in a conversational tone. Thanks for putting up with the long post! Just some thoughts that may help.

Lol!!! Please let us know... if it's ok... if your son gets close to Elon's score! You all should go check out a launch of one of Elon's rockets down at Boca Chica Beach in Texas. We went, and it was so amazing! I want to go again very soon and see his booster come back down and get caught by the arms of the launch pad as Trump would say "like a little baby!" ❤

SAT/ACT are for new enrollment students… I thought you mentioned that he was taking a college class; this would make him apply to another college as a “transfer” student. Where we are in the Midwest no college asks for their test scores; because they’re transfer students.
@GraceandGrit3 күн бұрын
That’s not entirely true. He is dual enrolled. To qualify for an academic scholarship anywhere he would apply as normal with the school of choice, have his scores evaluated, and then his dual credits would transfer and apply. Transfer students are not dual enrolled students. I just went through this with my daughter and at the SAME college.
@momoflittleladies3 күн бұрын
@@GraceandGrit The rules and guidelines are different for each state, and every mom listening should look into their states rules. In our state a homeschooled child can not be dual enrolled, only pubic/private school children can. To legally be a dual enrolled child in our state you MUST be approved by your high school; which is why homeschoolers can not dual enroll. Homeschooled students can take college classes here, but they are considered a college student and have to pay full price for everything. Nothing is discounted. They then apply as a transfer student. My husband worked for almost a decade with our states college system. Even working with the college and dual enrolled public high school children.. I am glad you are sharing your experience but I hope other viewers realize that every state is different.
@sanaismommy13 күн бұрын
@@momoflittleladiesI think it's assumed that every state has their own rules and regulations, dos and don'ts regarding homeschooling. I'm sure once you start looking into the process for SATs and such you'd learn what you have to do for your state. Perhaps her sharing kinda would get the ball rolling for those that are doing that

Hey homeschooling Dad here. We are currently using TGATB for Math and English. Our girls our in 4th and 6th grade. We would like a all in one curriculum and are thinking about switching to BJP. Would we enjoy the switch? Is the math comparable? We like how the TGATB lessons are online with a simple QR code scan. How is the BJU online hub and is it similar? We would be looking at BJP for 5th and 7th grades. Thanks!
