to anyone who’s petrified to look at their bank statements, LISTEN TO ME. the money has already been spent. the damage is done. whether you look or not, the statement will stay the same. taking a look at your finances can only help you, not hurt you. it’s okay to feel shame or regret, but just by looking at where your money is going from an objective perspective is a giant step.

1 of my tricks to keep from spending is to only carry my debt/ credit card when I have to make a purchase. I keep it in the safe and also try really hard to do any spending errands 1 day a week.

I failed in the first part of the year, I sold a lot of clothes and did spend the money earned from it buying new clothes to make my capsule wardrobe more complete. I’ve emigrated to another country with another climate and complete different lifestyle, not the best excuse. I’m living on a homestead, not working and taking care of my kids. My husband is working part time. The reason I’m doing a no buy is to afford this kind of lifestyle. I’m totally ready for my no buy year started 1st July 🔥 Thanks for your inspiring videos 💕

My win has been realizing how much I’ve used buying things (specially clothes and skincare) as a strategy of reaffirmation during years. Although I still feel like I love clothes and taking care of my skin, that notion and the desire of frugality are clearer and stronger now. Thank you so much for sharing your experiences this year. Your recap videos every month are my favorites

You are by far my favourite minimalism content creator! Most minimalism channels are just not relatable for me, because I have adhd just like you and I always felt like minimalism is too hard for someone like me. Now I did a no buy for about 3 month which worked very well, but my low buy for the rest of the year went horribly wrong, but you really motivated me to get back on track and not drown in frustration. Thank you for your Videos! Greetings from Germany :)

My biggest win has to do with the fact that I gave myself a break from the no buy in June to allow myself birthday gifts. Usually I tend to accidentally over spend, and spend closer to 1k on things for myself. This year I only spent 200, and i'm very happy with that. Even after depriving myself for six months I didn't go crazy and overboard and overconsume again just to get back on the wagon. Instead I changed my habits, and I'm going much more slow and safe.

I wouldn't think before that using up things would be so much fun, but I love throwing empties to the trash can. Also since I use my free time on my hobbies I don't have the need to purchase things for a new hobbie. Groceries and toiletries are still my dangerous areas, so I have to be extra mindful when going to the grocery stores or the supermarkets.

My wins-finally gaining positive traction this month after failing all year! I have only bought one thing this month which is an improvement. I can tell my habits are finally shifting into healthier ones! I had made some progress (cutting back on unnecessary spending) in May & June, and decided to do no buy july (I was aiming for a low buy year this year). Persistence combined with learning from mistakes and then redoubling efforts have been the key to my success.

The only thing i bought so far was a new laptop (i was saving money for this for 2~3 month). I love your content and it's helping me a lot! Probably a good thing I have been on this journey of discovery with you this year because my financial situation took a 50% cut suddenly 3 weeks ago. My financial person told me I would have to make cuts and live differently if I want to stay afloat. I now realize that I do not need as many things as I once thought I did. I am scared as I see money just going out all the time. I have to rearrange everything in my life. It’s not easy at almost 77 years old. I have physical needs now so that means everything else gets less money. Take it from me, however much money you think you need to retire, etc. you will need 100 times more.

Books were on my red light list and somehow I talked myself into a few purchases 🫣 It's so hard when you're out with other people and you're like ooo a lil treat✨ Like nooo saving for goals and not accumulating clutter is the treat 😩 But I do have a win in that I reduced how much I spend on groceries 👌Also going to CVS less because I have a habit of being like of well I'm just getting a vitamin and picking up a bunch of other things that I convinced myself I need. ALSO I STOPPED SPOILING OTHER PEOPLE, which was also a bad spending habit but I convinced myself it was worth it because I was helping or making someone happy which is so obviously wrong but I feel like society puts pressure on gift giving being super materialistic
