First time i saw them was in 2002 in huntington park at a place which once use to be peter piper pizza. I was 12 years old and i didnt know where my sister was taking me but she knew my parents would only let her go out if i was there with her, even though shes 4 years older than me. Something that really stood out to me that day was a bunch of kids wearing red shirts and what looked like a yellow heart in the center of it. My sister and her friends were there for the same reason everyone was there for... obviously. I had no idea what it was but i was open to hear what the buzz was about. I clearly remember the second band that night (left alone) which blew my mind away because it was fast punk, which really fell into my category of music. Ooh, but let me tell you something, when that third band came on stage dressed in red with a massive line up of band members, i thought to myself "wtf is this". Omg everyone slowly started two stepping around in a circle when that bass and horn came in as the intro (a lo que te truje chencha). I was shocked by how the band capture the audience in that manner. They were skanking! I didnt know what that was until that day. It was unlike anything ive ever seen before. They had rhythm, power, and so much energy. Nooo waayy! I was having fun just watching everyone skank. Mind you this was my first live event and it took me by the feet. Chencha berrinches was the shit that night! I will always remember that night and how it inspired me to create a ska band of my own and emulate there sound as much as possible, we even went on to cover that same song they opened up that show with. That 2002 LP was a major influence in those times for the ska scene it was a great time for ska and the bands that emerged at that time that are still going hard just like chencha berrinches. Keep on keeping on! Arre

Peter Arispe I was there at that very same show!! I completely agree about the atmosphere they created that night. As soon as they started their set, it was like a bomb went off. I have not experienced a show like that since...

I was also at that same show. Chencha had already built a huge following. Everyone one was waiting for them to break full on main stream. As soon as they played the crowed would go nuts. There was so much excitement and energy in the air. This version of Chencha is completely different than the original line up. I always preferred the original line up, it’s nostalgic for me. In high school, everyone would count down the days till a chancha show.
