Jim Johnson I think what Angel meant by the eating disorder situation is if people were to pressure her again into losing weight, or even if she wanted to by herself, it might bring back old habits that she worked so hard to get rid of. In addition, she has lost a lot of weight in the past year and is in extremely good shape. Would she perform better if she were to be thinner? Maybe. Tawnya Harding couldn’t do a triple axel because she was the thinnest one on the ice. Lastly, I believe if she really has the goal of competing at the top level again, she’s gonna start training and working out more which WILL get her in an even healthier state.

She needs to make some hard choices & some changes if she really wants to get back to the top. While she is better than last year, and more time would be helpful, there are some things about her skating here that suggest a coaching change would be in her best interest. She needs a coaching team with a real plan for a comeback, makes her do full run throughs of programs often, & isn’t wasting time making videos of her doing quads in a harness when she can’t even do all the triples in her programs right now. She may also need to adjust her off ice workouts to gain more strength.

I am VERY happy to see her skate on e more to this program as she wants to end her career without giving up. She showed courage, artistry and mental strength. She does need further full body muscle to vault with her speed (glad shes back with that compared to last event). And also more stretch for her spins where she will need points. The pops at the second half were expected tbh, she still faces doubts. To be good in the first half and then sub par in the second is a matter of trusting her technique and she will get there with the next three months as she gains confidence from sectionals and hopefully nationals. Go girl!

Thank you for posting this, Masha. This is a great improvement over the 2018 Rostelecom Cup, but she's still a work in process. If Gracie keeps popping her jumps, though, she won't qualify for Nationals, as some posters have pointed out. If that happens, then a coaching change might be the smart thing to do. I give her credit for building herself from the ground up--not easy to do as an older skater, especially with the young Quad Queens on the scene.

@@victoriacook4742 This program is nothing to be proud of. By choosing to place herself in this type of competitive environment which she can no longer handle (and hasn't for three years), she is doing herself a disservice. D Costa, I’m sorry to agree with you. I don’t want to agree, but I do. But your not seeing the bigger picture here, this isn’t about winning or getting medals and trophies. This is about her love of skating, which is so powerful and special. She wasn’t ready to let go yet, and so she is still here trying to tell a story with her skating, create precious memories, and take in as much of this sport as she can. I don’t know if you are a skater or not, but anyone who has not skated through her level could ever begin to comprehend what departure from this sport it like. She popped (I consider doubling a planned triple popping) most of the jumps in this program. Part of being a competitor is maintaining a strong mindset. After three years of issues, her inconsistency is no longer excusable. Get it together or retire. She would have had better prospects and less mental strife had she retired after the 2016-2017 season when the spark for competing left her.

She took time off, it takes lots of training time to get stamina back to be able to complete full programs. "No longer excusable" is a ridiculous statement, no one is excusing her. She's working from the ground up again, and has come a long way but still has a long way to go. She took time off between 2017-2018 to deal with her mental health issues, she's not making excuses she's working hard.
@davidcosta49495 жыл бұрын
@@jjkaykay8552 I don't think Gracie herself is necessarily making excuses. A lot of the comments about her Regionals programs talked about how great the performances were. I'm pointing out that people should stop pretending these types of performances are good or viable. She has no chance of overtaking the Russian and Japanese ladies in any competition, even if she continues to improve.
