The road to recovery starts with a single step and I think this was a huge step for her! She will always be a two time National Champion and an Olympian. It is great to see her skating on her terms. I love this program and song. I am glad we finally got to see it because it make me feel something. Keep at it, Gracie!

Karm1200 completely 100% agree here. Ever since I heard she was choosing this song, I have been waiting to see this. It’s like she’s telling her story through this song and her skating. I really pray and hope we see this at Nationals, it is just too special.

@@skater7590 she seems to be a much ore artistic skater now. She seems to have far greater expression and more control overall. She seems much more connected and confident. So think if she wants to back in Nationals, she will be back at Nationals, but under her own terms and self-recognition.

When you compare this to last year in Russia when she withdrew after her short, she is skating, she completed her program, she landed jumps, she is in a much better shape, but does need more time, however.

@@1AngelAlita Loosing weight for her would put her back into her eating disorder, and trigger everything again and will make her worse. Shes perfectly HEALTHY now. Also your comment is actually horrible to say to someone who has an eating disorder.
@aidancretarolo3966
@aidancretarolo3966 5 жыл бұрын
Jim Johnson I think what Angel meant by the eating disorder situation is if people were to pressure her again into losing weight, or even if she wanted to by herself, it might bring back old habits that she worked so hard to get rid of. In addition, she has lost a lot of weight in the past year and is in extremely good shape. Would she perform better if she were to be thinner? Maybe. Tawnya Harding couldn’t do a triple axel because she was the thinnest one on the ice. Lastly, I believe if she really has the goal of competing at the top level again, she’s gonna start training and working out more which WILL get her in an even healthier state.

It is a terrible thing when you have a couple of technical issues and then self-doubt creeps into your head, then into your performance. Gracie needs to remember, she was a lovely skater and still is a lovely skater ... just a different skater today. Don't chase the 13 year old jumping beans. Skate like the woman you now are and do it because YOU want to. The marks will be what the marks will be, your fans will love you regardless. You CAN DO THIS 👍👏👏👏🙂

R. E. Why do you feel the need to comment that? Are you aware of how strong she is to compete after coming back from an eating disorder, depression, anxiety etc. right? Trusova jumps quads bc she hasn’t developed into a woman yet. Once she starts to grow, who knows what will happen to her quads, but Gracie is a woman now. She is developed and is currently working quad sal and triple axel of pole harness. If you don’t have anything nice to say, keep it to yourself

She needs to make some hard choices & some changes if she really wants to get back to the top. While she is better than last year, and more time would be helpful, there are some things about her skating here that suggest a coaching change would be in her best interest. She needs a coaching team with a real plan for a comeback, makes her do full run throughs of programs often, & isn’t wasting time making videos of her doing quads in a harness when she can’t even do all the triples in her programs right now. She may also need to adjust her off ice workouts to gain more strength.

I am VERY happy to see her skate on e more to this program as she wants to end her career without giving up. She showed courage, artistry and mental strength. She does need further full body muscle to vault with her speed (glad shes back with that compared to last event). And also more stretch for her spins where she will need points. The pops at the second half were expected tbh, she still faces doubts. To be good in the first half and then sub par in the second is a matter of trusting her technique and she will get there with the next three months as she gains confidence from sectionals and hopefully nationals. Go girl!

Thank you for posting this, Masha. This is a great improvement over the 2018 Rostelecom Cup, but she's still a work in process. If Gracie keeps popping her jumps, though, she won't qualify for Nationals, as some posters have pointed out. If that happens, then a coaching change might be the smart thing to do. I give her credit for building herself from the ground up--not easy to do as an older skater, especially with the young Quad Queens on the scene.

Hmm, well, I guess there is good news and bad news.... Good news is that this is a much improvement from last year. Clearly she's getting better! The bad news is that she still far from the form she needs to be in for her to be competitive at US National not to mention international. She had done the international scene before so she knows what she needs to do to get there. I hope for her sake that she gets there. Even if she doesn't, she should be happy with how far she came along and move on to doing shows.

Great? She popped most of the jumps in this program and looked shaky on the triples she attempted. Calling this performance 'great' is paramount to delusion. She's nervous, over-weight, inconsistent and has no chance of making it on the national level, let alone the international.

@@victoriacook4742 This program is nothing to be proud of. By choosing to place herself in this type of competitive environment which she can no longer handle (and hasn't for three years), she is doing herself a disservice. A blind person can see she is extremely anxious and unhappy. There's a lot of things one can do to bring joy to their life; it doesn't seem like skating does that for her any more.
@skater7590
@skater7590 5 жыл бұрын
D Costa, I’m sorry to agree with you. I don’t want to agree, but I do. But your not seeing the bigger picture here, this isn’t about winning or getting medals and trophies. This is about her love of skating, which is so powerful and special. She wasn’t ready to let go yet, and so she is still here trying to tell a story with her skating, create precious memories, and take in as much of this sport as she can. I don’t know if you are a skater or not, but anyone who has not skated through her level could ever begin to comprehend what departure from this sport it like. Gracie is not ready to say goodbye to this side of skating. I respect your comment and although it is true, it doesn’t really apply to the bigger picture here. @DCosta

@@mashafigureskater think in a way it's good. She needs the time to rebuild internally. Adding too much pressure too soon only creates additional demand and expectations. At this point, it's really more important that she goes out and owns the ice and rebuilds self-belief. There;s no shame in slow rebuild. Don't think the problem is jumps or spins, but "this is my ice-I belong here" and taking control and being happy about herself.

If you can't say something nice or supportive, it is better to just say nothing at all and keep it to yourself. Gracie is a real person with real feelings, who may see this real mean post!

She popped (I consider doubling a planned triple popping) most of the jumps in this program. Part of being a competitor is maintaining a strong mindset. After three years of issues, her inconsistency is no longer excusable. Get it together or retire. She would have had better prospects and less mental strife had she retired after the 2016-2017 season when the spark for competing left her.

She took time off, it takes lots of training time to get stamina back to be able to complete full programs. "No longer excusable" is a ridiculous statement, no one is excusing her. She's working from the ground up again, and has come a long way but still has a long way to go. She took time off between 2017-2018 to deal with her mental health issues, she's not making excuses she's working hard.

@@jjkaykay8552 I don't think Gracie herself is necessarily making excuses. A lot of the comments about her Regionals programs talked about how great the performances were. I'm pointing out that people should stop pretending these types of performances are good or viable. If anything, I think she will do more mental and emotional harm to herself by choosing to remain a competitive skater. She has no chance of overtaking the Russian and Japanese ladies in any competition, even if she continues to improve.

D Costa she doubled out a lot of her jumps in her Olympic season debut. It’s regionals, after she hadn’t competed a long program since 2017. As seen on Instagram she’s capable of doing much harder jumps. It’s a process. She wasn’t trying to peak at a regional qualifier, and only she knows how nervous she was. kzbin.info/www/bejne/j4WVY6mHqph8aaM

@@bendonna I've seen the Instagram videos. That's practice. Let's see if she can get back to form and do it when it counts. I don't doubt her raw talent, but if she can't tackle her mental demons and command an athlete's mindset, she will never succeed in competition.
