There is also Japanese Jujutsu, which is where it originated. American Jujitsu was already in the U.S. prior to BJJ. You will see how they combines with American influences locally. I.e. Boxing, wrestling (catch and other), kickboxing, etc. Just like BJJ added to JJJ, American and other countries will do the same.

I agree that Japanese Jujutsu arrived in America before Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, but I am not aware of any American style Jujutsu development.

Actually, GM Oswaldo Fadda was from Rio de Janeiro (not São Paulo) and was trained by GM Luiz França, the latter being trained by Maeda when he was residing in Belém (north of Brazil). Although GM Luiz França had a period where he lived in São Paulo, he ended up fixing residence in Rio, where he trained military forces and the police. Pretty sure "Brazilian Jiu Jitsu" was coined in the states after Rorion started suing his family members for using the Gracie name. They needed a way of distinguishing themselves from traditional japanese jiu jitsu schools. I agree it's all the same and "American jiu-jitsu" is no different as well.

Rorion Gracie's attempts to trademark the family name and prevent Gracie family members from using it was unethical and fortunately it failed in court, so there was never a need to stop using the term Gracie Jiu Jitsu.

Could you add a +10% brightness filter to your videos? They're a little dark for being a white background. Edit: or are there any darker walls so it doesn't look like they're supposed to be white.

I appreciate the advice, but honestly don't know how to do it. I just set my phone up and start talking. Is that something I would do before recording or is that something that can be done after?

@@semperfortisjiujitsu It would be after the video is done. On iPhone, the Photos app has an Edit button that lets you tweak brightness. I expect Android has something similar

American JiuJitsu obviously wears red and white gi bottoms with a blue star spangled gi top and uses the eagle claw as part of their grip fighting techniques.
