That's her natural voice. No auto-tune. No overdub. Sinead was a master of vocal dynamics, and her voice had a strangely beautiful harmonic quality. There will never be another.

As a self-proclaimed "Protest-Singer" I believe Sinead would deem this "attitude"- of the 3 Comments above as pure ignorance! The reason Sinead has such short hair, sometimes completely shaved is because she doesn't want to be "Objectified" by people such as the comments here! Sinead despises comments that are just about her looks especially when she is one very Talented & powerful singer! (Woman don't exist for other's visual gratifications!) 🤫🤔😏🙄🥺😟😮😱

Sinead's tears were genuine from thinking about her mother who she lost in a car accident when she was 18. Thank you Sister for your reaction in this video. I had the exact same breakdown with the 'mama' when I understood that it was all sung to her mother, who had died. I've been crying since midnight last night. Few people get it the first time, and certainly not in a reaction video. I have known this song since childhood, but it was just a slow love song for me. Only yesterday, after 20 years, I heard her again and finally understood. And it totally blew me away. 😭😭😭 Love you and Peace❤✌ Martin, 38

she thought of her mother when she was in the studio recording this but the song was not about her mother. The lover who left planted the flowers for her mother - the song is a Prince song,,,not written by Sinead about her mother. She said when she was filming the video she started thinking about her mother during that verse and cried for 22 minutes. She had unresolved issues with her mother due to the abuse she endured at her mother's hands as a child. She then lost her mother at the age of 18 when her mother and brother were in a car accident. Her brother survived by unfortunately she lost her mother and never got the chance to know her as an adult or address the abuse issues.

Prince wrote this song. For him, “mama” a different context. When Sinead sang it, the reason it’s so emotional is because she’s not singing about a lover. She’s singing about her mother. She has lived a difficult life and this song, her version, has only grown more powerful with age
@katinabotten
@katinabotten 10 ай бұрын
Ok…… she is sad about the abuse she endured at the hands of her mother! But, I would think it to be abuse that Sinead loved her one son so much so that “nothing compares” to him, not even her own daughter or her two other kids. Sinead herself said, “he’s the only one who has loved me unconditionally.” So, she is obviously also saying her remaining (3) kids did not love her unconditionally. Let’s also remember that there is more to life than being a awesome singer and putting out hits! God doesn’t love a person more than another, God loves unconditionally. Had her son lived and not committed suicide and formed his own identity (given the chance to grow into an adult) maybe he would have had his own mind and maybe she would have said, “no one has ever loved me unconditionally)

the song is sung with a rare, raw, beautiful emotion. the Mama reference to me is where her lover planted flowers in her mother's back yard. This to me means he was also integrated with her family, and it was a serious relationship. It does strike home to many of us as we have felt this devastation in our lives.

There was nothing fake about her. Her mother was killed in a car crash a few years before, so issues were unresolved. Prince had originally written it, but Sinead had changed some of the words in the lyrics. Prince was unhappy about that. The song is about loss. Sinead intentionally spoke to the lyric “All the flowers you planted mama, in the back yard. Have all died since you went away” due to Sinead having lost her mother and having a regretful relationship with her mother. I believe the song remained in the top spot on charts for 38 weeks. Still maintaining the longest running number one song.

Prince wrote and recorded this song in 1984, but didn't release it. Instead, he gave it to The Family, a band that was signed to his Paisley Park record label. They recorded the song in 1985, with their singer St. Paul (Paul Peterson) handling the vocals. According to Peterson, he was asked to sing it in the style of Prince. To get the right emotion, he thought about a girl named Julie who broke his heart in high school.

Most people have never felt this song. Some because they haven't been so in love that they would happily tear out their beating heart to give to another. Others are still with someone for whom they feel this way. But for those who've been there, had it, and lost it... I'm sorry. I have felt that pain myself, in ways I cannot even begin to describe. Hang in there. It may not get better, but it can't if you don't stick around to find out.

Music and song can be so powerful. It should be healing the world. We just need more people like you to spread the gospel.

Gracie, you are just an absolute delight! What a fitting out-pouring for such an intensely emotional song! This is actually my introduction to you and your channel. I am already hooked! Thank-you for listening to this phenomenally beautiful and iconic song. Sinéad O'Connor is incomparable - one of the most brilliant artists of the last century. I am so touched by your embrace of this song and its video! Keep doing your thing, GRACIE STYLE!! ❤️❤️❤️

R.i.p. Sinead, you did not deserve what the critiics did to you, but your music lives on. I hope you found peace before you died.

What you said about her mother is so very true. Here's what the song's Wikipedia page says about the video: "Toward the end of the video, two tears roll down her face, one on each cheek. O'Connor has said that her tears were real. She did not intend to cry but then thought, 'I should let this happen.' She explained that the tears were triggered by thoughts of her mother, who died in a car accident in 1985." en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nothing_Compares_2_U
