It was my job to maintain these . 3900. 5900 and the 7900 hydraulics. Best advice i can give. Dont use oil on leather packings. Rub them with red rubber grease. Soft and sticky grease. Coat them well. And pak your goodies. Alwas locktite on the piston ball valve threads. And send it. My pumps i serviced did up to 10 000 liters of heavy based road marking pain.

Great video straight to the point. I have a question im working on a graco text spray mark v and seems there is excessive leaking coming from the bottom coming out of the foot valve but the packings aren’t torn and all of rings are intact and the piston rod is in good shape. Any idea why that is ? Could the packings just be worn or any ideas ?

With upper and lower packings , paint does the lubricating for bottom packing and throat oil lubes top packing. Is this correct?

if i torqued the piston packings while the piston was inside the sleeve, did i do it wrong? 27-30 ft lbs

That’s where I keep getting screwed up too. 27 ft lbs not only tightened the bolt all the way but it crushed the gaskets too.
