I was hesitant to purchase an open box carseat but it came in excellent condition and saved $35. Box was damaged as stated before I purchased it, but the kzbin.infoUgkxIxQe7nPH74g_xtI5NgiE9-zpGNkfgovw car seat looks brand new and I don't think it was ever used. I will update of course if I have any issues with this carseat but I don't think I will. Also it is surprisingly lightweight, the handle feels secure unlike my previous EvenFlo that was gifted to us. Love it !

Please do not put a 1 year old in this seat, even if they meet the weight requirements. This seat cannot rear face. Kids should be rear facing until at least 2, longer if possible, in many states this is the law. This is because under 2, a kid's neck is not strong enough to withstand a high speed crash while forward facing. This can cause an injury called internal decapitation, where the ligaments that secure the spine to the skull are torn away from the bone. It's a deadly injury. Please google it if you don't believe me. It is bad. You should pick up a "convertible" car seat that can rear face until your child is at least 2. I just now bought this Graco Nautilus seat for my 4 year old. That is closer to the age range that this seat is appropriate for.

I’m trying to figure out which way is the safest for my 8 year old grandson. He is just over 50 lbs. After actually reading the manual again I was a little confused. On page 32 - 3-A, in the side with the picture it states not install by that method for children over 45 pounds yet I the directions it states 22-65 pounds. I think it would be the easiest for the children to get in and out of by using the car seat like he has all along until he reaches the max weight. I feel it is the safest? Plus it’s nice to have the sides when he falls asleep in the car LOL. How do you use it for children over 50 lbs? Do you have a video? Thank you

Good question Sheri. This is a tough one, since I am not a professional I would not be able to tell you what is best, all I can say is that we follow the instructions to the best that we know how, and if we need further help we would seek out the professional help. We have found that hospitals and some baby boutiques will have the staff to guide and help you with these questions. I believe 50 lbs should be installed with a seatbelt and anchor (not the lower tethers). And 50 lbs is good in the harness (up to 65 lbs) rather than the seat belt positioner. Reach out to graco to confirm though! kzbin.info/www/bejne/oXTHmXmmqNylsNk

My son is 5 and is between the harness and booster seats so I've been educating myself. Based on my research, if you're using the harness, the Latch anchors should no longer be used when the combined weight of the child + car seat exceeds 65 lbs, most car seats weigh 20 lbs so a child's weight of 45 lbs is the limit for using the Latch. The rationale I found is that Latch anchors may not support weight exceeding 65 lbs in the event of a severe crash. So if your child is using the harness and weight is > 45 lbs, you should use the seat belt that loops through the guides (see your car seat manual) instead of the Latch anchors to secure the car seat to the car. You also can't use the Larch AND the seat belt at the same time. So you think you're done with the Latch? NO! So when your child transitions to the belt-positioning booster, you DO use the Latch again, but now the Latch's role is simply to keep the car seat from becoming a projectile and hitting occupants of the car when the car seat is unoccupied. Hope this helps.

That’s a good question Leilany, we have not tried that, but we did add a third car seat to the row for our son and it is a different brand make and model.
