I'm tempted to grade some CIB SNES games just for the convenience of having it authenticated for selling in the future, and for the present, just for something that looks nice. If I'm not harsh enough and it gets a bad grade, then it's just something cool to look at.
@KeeVarTheBarbarian8 ай бұрын
great video! You hit the nail on the head. One thing you may not have noticed with the $22 k 9.4 SMB comp you showed is that that particular 9.8 cart can be used in a first print box, so it was a very very special opportunity for anyone who would want to bump a sticker seal SMB's grade in a future marriage. I would argue that was the major reason it sold so high. Cheers G
@GetTheGreg8 ай бұрын
Ahh I did see the 9.8 cart but I didn't think it would work with a Matte sticker. I thought there was one or two cart revisions between 1st and whatever print this one was. If that's the case, then yea, that's a significant push for the 20k price. Still seems a bit crazy to me, but yes!

I have a LOT of CIB games (including every Pokemon game) but I don't want to grade them. To me, owning something CIB means I have the ability to take it out and go through all the stuff, to experience the nostalgia of opening the game up "for the first time" all over again. Grading it takes away that capability. I can certainly appreciate people who do that to keep their stuff protected and in good condition, but it's just not for me. Sealed stuff, though, I'm happy to grade, because it's never been opened in the first place and never will be.
@GetTheGreg8 ай бұрын
I feel like a lot of people will always have that distinction
@atomstoart27537 ай бұрын
For me, the thing I really enjoy about a well-kept CIB is that in a lot of cases, they've been opened, played, enjoyed, shared with family/friends, and somehow still kept in good condition. There's a story behind them, and I just think that's really cool.
@CartsAndCardboard8 ай бұрын
Also worth noting the $22,800 SMB had a first print 9.8 cart despite the box having the TM and likely got put into a matte or gloss sticker SMB.

Someone else pointed that out too! I didn't realize that cart could swap with a Matte

I have a sealed Xenosaga 3 that graded very high, but HA told me it wasn't enough to meet their minimums for auction, even though it was said to be valued around $1K by the HA rep I talked to. Do you have to send in several games to get them to auction? Some of the games in this video sold for less than that supposed minimum....
@GetTheGreg8 ай бұрын
I believe the minimum required consigment amount is $5000 right now - so a single game worth that or a submission of multiple that reach that. Of course, that is also negotiable depending on what exactly you have, but that's likely why you were told that.
@mllarson8 ай бұрын

There was also an April of 2022 castlevania hang tab 9.2, with I think 9.2 box, 9.0 manual n 9.2 endlabel overhanging cart that went for 7200. Not nearly as nice as the latest, n same price. So there's been some drop even on this. However I was a bit surprised that this was somewhat of an exception n was bid up so much before the auction. Although it was such a damn high grade I wasn't shocked.

I was thinking about sending in my PS1 Longbox copy of A-Train that I have had since it came out, it's in really nice shape, I still have the original receipt from 1997 when I bought it new, most I see online are in bad shape compaired to mine or missing the instruction booklet. :-) I was also thinking about sending in a cib Nintendo Game Cube Demo Disc I have had since I worked at a video rental store, looks like those go for good amounts. What is everyone's thoughts on graded cartridge only for NES? I have an extra copy of Pinball that is in really good shape and I know Raw it won't go for much, so I was thinking on trying my luck to send it in for grading.

@GetTheGreg7 ай бұрын
It was never a secret haha, I've been streaming their weekly auctions via sponsorship for like... 1.5 years now? There was a slight break in there for a bit, but I literally made a video when I first started working with them. Glad you're up to speed! Grading companies? Nah. I probably would do something with them but then everyone would just think I get favoritism so it's probably better I'm never sponsored by any of them. It's better I'm able to be as critical as I want with their services (as I try to still do with Heritage too. It's not like you should sell everything and anything through them.) Pat's video didn't bring anything new to the discussion unless I missed something. If it's indeed found out to have all been an inside job/manipulation as alleged by Karl originally, we'll have to see what the fallout is!
@johnm1407 ай бұрын
It's very possible HA sponsors your videos and nothing more...but perhaps it runs deeper. The owner of HA also had a hand in starting up wata. Is it possible that in addition to sponsorship money, you get preferential grading for advertising wata games being auctioned off on HA? I recall you being pleasantly surprised on many of your unboxing videos with the grades. Who knows the full extent of your relationship? It's always seemed odd that a random lad in the middle of Saskatchewan has such a wealth of knowledge of just about every variant of game out there, especially since this market has really only begun to show real value since the creation of wata. Perhaps you are simply a passionate collector of sealed games who happened to have the foresight of the potential monetary value this market could provide. At best you are a man financially gaining from two companies that have proven themselves to be unethical in both morals and business practices.

@@bossmaiden5979 Everybody gets paid for something. But I don't, and heritage is pretty damn good. Recently I had some goof on ebay just download a game I had recently bought off heritage, and put some ridiculously high price tag on it, just trying to have another item on their page to look like they have stock. I hadn't received the game yet, called heritage to see if they sent it (just in case something happened, misdelivered etc), and they answered right away and were cool with checking on it. No prompt system, no transfer your call etc. It was at the end of the day and the lady was good about the questions I had. So as far as that goes, customer service, which is huge in a business like this, they are very, very good.

@Jackie_Fhan8 ай бұрын
You start off saying these are up to 50 times more available (although some much less for sure) and end with "most premium stuff that exists" when referring to the last CIB auction at HA. Could you be much more contradictory here. We do not really see or know what collectors have in their hands. I imagine there is dozens upon dozens of very near mint to mint cibs, and sealed games in collectors hands. From people who never show it off (much less care to grade it) just considering how much has gone through ebay in 25 plus years... I think you are really mispeaking here. People are for sure over paying and resellers are no doubt stalking online avenues to buy to grade for those over paying.
@GetTheGreg8 ай бұрын
50 times more available than sealed in general probably should have been 500x more available, in general. Your average CIB, which is more available than sealed, isn't worth grading and isn't part of the "most premium" conversations. 9.4 is absolutely near the top of condition for anything cib, whether it's in a private collection or already graded. More can exist, but 9.4+ will never flood the market. If you think a ton of mint CIB black box NES is hiding away, we will have to agree to disagree. Hopefully that helps clarify a bit more!
@Jackie_Fhan8 ай бұрын
@@GetTheGreg From what I have and what I have seen with 9.6 boxes on cgc. I would give a rough estimate that I have at least 20 nes boxes that would have to be a 9.9 in comparison including SMB 1, 2 and 3. TMNT 3, Duck Hunt, Ducktales and others. This is from 2 years of buying as well. I think there is more and better stuff out there than we can imagine. Is it a grading issue? likely, but the boxes we are getting at 9.4 are no where close to a 9.2 sealed box.
