Grading around foundation

Someone I work with said the same thing, so I guess it's true. He said to get about $100 worth of dirt and build slopes against the house to keep water out. I'm ready to do anything at this point. I'm near the point of selling my house for just what I can get.

I have been watching a lot of videos on this topic and you have explained it the best so far. I had water come into my basement via a window well that filled up with water because of a clogged gutter and negative slope...I plan on fixing both of these issues, but a company quoted me $3500 to dig out below my window well and put in a drain that connects to the drain tile system that surrounds the footings of our basement. Do you think its worth getting that done in addition to fixing the slope and gutter issue or is that $3500 too expensive/overkill?

So you can just add dirt around foundation? Insead of digging and grading?

Dirt will easily wash away. This is a video just for reviews. To properly grade around the house you should do the following: If it were as easy as "Buying a yard of dirt and throwing it around the foundation" then everyone would. There's much more to it here and he missed 98% of it.

Fill dirt will hold that foundation. Thats how it's done. Some people think it always has to take a lot of money to fix an issue. Some people can believe that all they need to do. Yes that's all you need to do. The bulk of it anyways.
