Just like the Super Nintendo version, the soundtrack to this game is OUTSTANDING. One of the best ever created in my opinion. Not a single bad song in the entire game.
@Seahawk002712 жыл бұрын
That is a definite plus for this game, and one of the biggest reasons to play the game; the music is easily the best in the series, even beating out the non FM synthesis based songs of 4, 5, and Gaiden.

@wozyh Gradius 3 is known for its difficulty. There are several reasons why. Apparently, Arcade operators complained that people spent too much time on Gradius 2 and Salamander machines, so Gradius 3 got a difficulty bump in the form of a lot more enemies, harder enemies, an absolutely MASSIVE hitbox on the Vic Viper, large enemy hitboxes, and merciless checkpoints.
@k0namiman14 жыл бұрын
Holy crap dude. Usually dying once in Gradius 3, especially this far in, is a death sentence, it's almost impossible to build back up to fighting strength in this unforgiving quarter muncher. I applaud your badassery.

Think about this: The man who designed the cube stage got a unique version of Salamander for helping Konami discover new and innovative ways to reduce players to tears.

The Super Nintendo version improved on the Arcade version in my opinion. It has new music for crystal core and covered core. I like both of those tracks.
@PikangsFutaba12 жыл бұрын
True indeed. I've played this game a couple of times on the hardest difficulty and no wait on my PSP and the entire game is a living hell, but stage 9 is more of a nightmare because the crystal rush is much longer and the 10 enemies before the bosh rush fire too quick, if you die at any stage (specially the last 2 stages, the probabilities of recovering are about 2%)
@Bloodreign18 жыл бұрын
Stage 10 and the boss rush has the biggest kick in the balls if you beat the boss rush, and die before a certain checkpoint further into the stage inside the ship. Die, and you do the entire boss rush all over again, truly a massive nut kick from Konami at that time. You better make sure you don't die until at least a good ways past the boss rush and deep enough into the ship.

Thanks. Many tears were shed on this stage during the many failed runs before this =).

+Seahawk0027 To answer your question about Dellinger Core, if you're not directly in front of him (AKA above or below him), he rams you once or twice until you're in front of him again. This is exploited by a lot of players (including me) by going to the upper left corner to make Dellinger Core ram you once, then going to the bottom and having ram you there, then letting him move back at the bottom and going straight to the top, using your Options to do damage to Dellinger Core. Then you can just repeat until he's dead. Pretty easy strat if you ask me, makes the fight a lot more bearable when recovering or with no slowdown.

Considering how this game went, I'm surprised they didn't throw one final "Screw you!" at the player in with the crystal cube rush by forcing you to navigate through the mess made instead of it fading away. Barricaded yourself in? Hope you left a path to squeeze out! Probably the only mercy in the game...

I know that now, but at the time of posting of this video I did not. I cannot fix without deleting this video and reuploading, which I will not do. I decided not to use annotations since I will let this video stand on its own legs. Besides, the point of this is to show I beat the game, rather than what all the bosses are =). But I will remember all that for future videos =). Thanks for all the info.

Correction : actually the name of the last boss in this boss rush is Dellinger Core ^_^ you can check it's official name in Gradius enemy data base ^_^

Gradius 3 was a good game if you don't like quarters for some reason.
@wozyh14 жыл бұрын
@k0namiman cheersthanks for that. with the difficulty been so extreme though, it seems as if only a very small minority of players will be able to reach and experience the later stages of the game. their's hard and their's ridicoulously hard; which imo is the category this game falls into. it just a shame though that probably only a small amount of players are gonna get to experience and see the effort and work that has gone it producing the latter stages of the game
@Seahawk002715 жыл бұрын
Thanks ^^. The reason this level is so frustrating is that it depends on LUCK rather than SKILL. Even on Normal difficulty this stage is nearly impossible.
@k0namiman14 жыл бұрын
@wozyh Yeah, it is a shame that not many people will get to experience the later levels. But at the height of the shooter golden age, when this was released, shooters comprised a very large number of games in both American and Japanese arcades. And some of them, like Gradius 3, were designed purely to be quarter munchers. They were hard as heck, but carried popular names. The result was a machine that saw very little play time per customer, but lots of customers, thus increasing revenue.

Very impressive of avoiding the option theif in that tight corner you were in the crystal stage.

LOL, I noticed the crystal shapes that build up in the scrolling section are Tetris pieces!

I much prefer the music for the stage 10 boss rush in this version. It feels more intense than the SNES versions' idea of giving each boss a different theme song.

When I first got this far, I was stupid and didn't realize I could go DOWN into the last crater. So I crashed when the screen scrolled...

I use to call it the Tetris level.

I will guess that you are talking about the difficulty. Lizard Core is harder because it's firing patter is much more random than Heaven's Gate. Also the lasers have bigger hitboxes so you cannot hide in between them as you can in Graduis Gaiden. The tentacles prevent you from coming to close, and if you try to stay above or below the boss, the side cannons will trap you and you will die. And when you die you must do the crystal rush again before getting another chance.

The SNES was awesome but the design for the last stage of this version was alot more better

@Seahawk002714 жыл бұрын
I do not think so. It's just simply hard. There are 100 cubes to dodge. Some rush you, the ones that do will do so at different positions on screen. A cube set is selected with some unknown random factor before the stage begins, so it is very hard to practice individual sets. The screen scrolls into empty space, so there is nowhere to hide when it begins. The only way to win is to make a cube fortress, or to get high speed and actively dodge, but that is not sustainable in the later stages.
@Seahawk002715 жыл бұрын
I learned that a few days after posting the video. It's too late to go back and edit the video text, but I'll do a fix with annotations =).

I'm still trying to beat the game on the gradius portable hardest mode without wait mode and it's a hell. So far I managed to get to stage 3 on that mode.

I might have beaten this game several months earlier than I did were it not for this stage. I still don't know how to do it, this time was only the third time I had actually passed this stage.

Odd, assuming 'dellinger' is a mistranslation of 'Deringer', Dellinger Core doesn't seem anything like a Deringer (More or less a pocket-sized easily concealed Handgun) - A actual deringer core wouldn't be too interesting to fight, it would probably just be a abnormally small big core.
@wozyh14 жыл бұрын
is it so hard because of a flaw in programming? i too couldn't get past the cube section without turning on invincibility on the mame cheat options. overall, this game is by far one of the hardest shotters i've ever come across

Never got past this stage when I played it in the arcade back in the early 90's. I never figured out you had to build a protective barrier with the cubes themselves. Only playing in on mame32 about 15 years later did I manage it. Stupid Konami. Totally ruined the game.
