Best advice ever, had a similar issue, finally went doc, used debrox on recommendation and globs of brown gummy's came out. Magic hearing returned.

I think you could do this without taking headphones apart, cut the wire a bit longer, then poke the wire into the headphone, then gently widen the hole big enough for the new connector, then hook the wire back out through the hole and solder the connector and then slide that in. A bit of hoovering and working at an angle that any dust doesn't reach the driver. Bit fiddly perhaps but probably still easier than pulling it all apart especially on models that don't come apart easily

Yes you probably could, you would just need make sure the driver was at the top while you were doing it so the shavings don't fall into the driver.

@CustomCans if this is your business you could develop a system where you're done in ten minutes, with open back headphones you could even have a hoover at low power against the grill and use a drill dough limited to avoid hitting anything on the inside, though a reamer would likely work. I just salvaged my old grados thanks for the video

Looks SO good. Wondering if the mini xlr type connectors might be doable in those ?
@CustomCans2 жыл бұрын
I don't think we have done that on this model but you should be able to.

Watched a couple of your videos and well, still a little confused on the soldering of the socket part inside the headphones. Left and right is soldered to a ground connector pin and +ve and/or -ve pin?
@CustomCans2 жыл бұрын
Hi - we make the tip of the jack the + and the ring the -
@Spydee22072 жыл бұрын
@@CustomCans so inside the driver itself, it will be soldered to a positive and a negative? And there's no ground?
@CustomCans2 жыл бұрын
@@Spydee2207 On headphones there are only two connections on the driver which are normally marked positive and negative but you could call it positive and ground depending on what you are sticking on the other end. But... basically inside the driver there is an electromagnet which is just a coil of wire. You are connecting to either side of that coil. Audio is an AC signal so constantly swaps between positive and negative. When the current flows one way the voice coil is pushed one way and then when it the current goes the other way it is pushed back the other way which in turn moves the diaphragm to create the sound waves. If you are using it with a standard amplifier, as a normal jack only has 3 connections for the 4 wires they usually share the negative/ground and you have two separate positive wires. When you use a balanced headphone amp you will have 4 connections, two to each drive with + carrying the signal and - carrying an inverted version of the signal.

Huge fan of your jobs! Thanks for the video. You reckon it's possible to use a heat gun / air dryer to open them instead? Cheers!
@CustomCans3 жыл бұрын
Yes - you would just have to be careful not to over heat the driver

So you are telling me to buy the ps1000e and send it to you for a cable mod?

Noooooo. Just enjoy them as they are ;) I mainly do this for fun - the PS1000 are no fun to mod

Great video, watched from start to finish and all with the attention span of a 2 year old, do you have a video on how to open the GS2000e by any chance please.

We normally warm them up a bit and pick the glue out around the driver until it is loose

I would like to have a pair of the new Grado SR80x and have them modded by you. It would be interesting so you can make a comparison on the previous e series vs the new series x. Let me know what you think

We may be able to sort something out - the best thing to do is to email custom cans and see if we can get you booked in

Congratulations on your work! Could make Grado RS2 detachable cable mod?
@georgewilson1457 Жыл бұрын
I though the point of detachable cables was to get rid of the horrible grado cable and replace it with nice cable why did you put a 2.5 on to the cable you just cut off, great video by the way and I am going to mod my new hemps to make them perfect.
@CustomCans Жыл бұрын
We just do the mods we are asked to ;) I would definitely recommend putting a nicer cable on at the same time

You put the pads back on the wrong way. Cuts should be on the outside. :)

Lol - yes, I figured that out after re watching the video ;)
