I’m a united fan but come on. Lampard inherited a bad team that only made top 4 because united and arsenal were so ghastly. In reality none of those 3 deserved top 4. So he inherited a bad team and immediately loses his best player in hazard. Then they are under a transfer ban. So he can’t even replace anybody of get a striker. So he’s inherited a bad squad that’s not his with no way to improve them. You can’t judge him. This season is just about implementing your style and identity on the team. The two seasons after that is when we should really judge him. This season is a free pass to me

As a Liverpool fan, we had about the same quality of team in 2015 when Klopp took over- and we finished 8th that season 15-16. We then went and got Mane, Wijnaldum and Matip, Klopp had another year training them, and we finished 4th. Then 4th. Then 2nd and CL. He needs to be given 2 years bare minimum, 3, and on the 3rd season if he doesn't make top 4 then you think about replacing.

I think Chelsea are not far off in playing style.. but Lampard has to set up the side more compact in my opinion. Playing beautiful is one thing but playing with a certain level of know-how is also very important. PL is fast and no matter how good you are on the ball you will face patches of play where you have to defend well and stay switched on. I just don't see Chelsea seeing out these bad patches based on their pre-season and the 3 games played! The classic example of this we saw yesterday when Man City absolutely dominated the game against Spurs but conceded bizzare goals... first was cause of GK's positioning and second from corner headed by 5"8' Moura... I mean cumon! No matter what team you are.. if you are not compact when the opposition has their leg up you will struggle!

Dammyj Ade batshuayi is not match fit yet. He's playing with the u23 to regain his match fitness, and for Barkley he's massively inconsistent and last season proved it alot to the point that he was third choice behind Kovacic and RLC in the midfield.

Abraham is better. Batshuayi has slightly better finishing but that’s it. His link up is poor and he doesn’t offer you the height that’s Tammy and Giroud give you. Why use a player that’s never gonna improve and is completely static in the box. There’s a reason Conte, Sarri and now Lampard rarely or never used him.

Lampard gets one transitional season, full backing in the summer for new players. After that he gets the usual treatment. As for the argument that Lampard has inherited a bad squad, from 2007-2014 (roughly) Arsene Wenger consistently made top 4 with a team of Kids, rejects and talent that he had nurtured (Fabregas, Van Persie, Walcott etc) with little to no funds in the transfer window. It can be done, but he needs to instill a sense of unity, loyalty and passion amongst his players. Frank's has two choices imo: Make so with what you have and compromise your style to win games in a different fashion ("when you're not dominating at least be difficult to play against) or he needs to identify the very best talent (preferably young) in his squad, mould the team in his own way and just insist to the owner that he's playing the long game and needs players.

I guess this is a fun magical reality where we ignore that Fabregas was an acclaimed talent of the Barcelona youth academy, that Van Persie was already a somewhat prolific forward at Feyenoord that Wenger signed when he was into his 20s and that whatever Arsenal achieved was in spite of the absolute blob of NOTHING that Wenger 'nurtured' Walcott into... and that Arsenal spent decent money on good signings like Rosicky, Sagna, Eduardo (shame how that one turned out) Arshavin, Nasri, Ramsey, Vermaelen, Koscielny, Chamberlain, Gervinho, Arteta, Mertesacker, Cazorla, Podolski, Giroud, Nacho Monreal, Mesut Ozil, Alexis Sanchez, Calum Chambers (the decent money part, not the good signing part for him) Danny Welbeck (same again) Mattia Debuchy and Gabriel 'Costa's Bitch' Paulista. having to hunt for bargains is not the same as being unable to make signings entirely.

While Lampard won't be under pressure this season, if a more experienced manager becomes available at the end of the season, they could just let him go regardless. Rafa was available, but perhaps he didn't want to go back to Chelsea again as an interim, and into yet another situation where he couldn't buy players. Tuchel will become available if PSG don't win the CL this season. Allegri will be looking for a new job and he is a great manager (he's likely taking a year off to learn English). Domestic rivals such as Nuno Espirito and Pellegrini might be looking to upgrade if they have decent seasons. Also, after today's performance, the CFC board will be thinking - again - about Brendan Rodgers. Rodgers' next appointment will surely be at either Man Utd or Chelsea. If Newcastle stay up and get new owners, they too would want to go for him. Transfer budget or no transfer budget, Lampard will be under pressure to prove his worth. There are a lot of good players at the club and he should be able to at least get to the final of the Europa League and finish in the top 6. The transfer ban could actually work against Frank because while he won't be entirely responsible for the season's results, the board will know that they have not invested a dime in his players. As such, they are not beholden to his vision and they could pursue the best manager available next season and give him the investment funds. Chelsea's board is ruthless. They've sacked Jose twice, and he's won everything.
